can you guys help me choose the better of them two..i ride only on street for now!! and share any experience with the Motul 300V..i always read positive feedback about it!!
Yea..but there is no Lucas or Mobil One oil in my country..so the closest oil will be Motul..i dont know what to choose the Factory Line or Road Racing
He sorta told you....whichever is cheaper. You will not be able to tell the difference and as long as you change regularly neither will your bike. (to sum up what Mott said)
300v road racing is for onroad bikes.
The other is for offroad (dirtbikes etc)
castrol isnt a real synthetic. They use a marketing loophole. Its listed as a class III. which means it is derived from mineral oil. The loophole comes from thwm containing a synthetic additive.
who knows what mobil 1 is they don't say.
Motul is class V. 100% synthetic. Plus 300v is double ester.
Ive always used Motul 300V in my 2012 R6 since new after break in period was over. I pretty much just stuck with Motul for all my fluids. I get a half decent price on the stuff, I like running full synthetic in these high reving motors and I've had no issues and bike seems to like it.
so it turns out motomummy posted on the R1 forum that the reps from oil companies tell them that racing oil is only designed to be used short term and will not protect engines for a full service interval.
I know I never said it but I usually run motul 7100 which is their street synthetic oil.
so there...an apology. you are right. 300v is not suitable for long drain intervals. I am usually a skeptic of internet advise but when a vendor tells you the reps tell them this I think there is truth to it.
I hope you don't mind me bringing up an old thread but perhaps someone here can help me. I've asked professional racers I know, ex racers with many years experience, fact finders and all opinions unfortunately differ. All but one, that Castrol is crap.. And that's what my bike has been running with previous owner.
I've checked the oil and it looks good and clean.
A bit of background: Bike is a 2006 Yamaha R6 race bike. Not a road bike. It's ridden hard. I have heard that Yamaha's don't like full synthetic and so have been warned to stay away from Motul 300V and the Castrol which is in the bike (which I now read here is not really full synthetic).
Anyway, I'm at a point of not actually knowing what is best for my bike and left very indecisive. My first prize option based on oil I have researched online and what is available here in South Africa is to go with the Motul 7100 4T 10W-40. It's also the oil that comes up on a search for my bike on Motul's website, but, and a big but, there's no mention to racing, it's recommended for normal use.

Don46... its 2016... not 1620. Full synthetic is perfectly fine for even a brand new bike! With modern technology there is very little "break" in. And 600 or 1000 break in miles that most OEMs dictate is not for the end users benefit. Now that you indicated your bike is race duty... well you can toss all the OEM maintenance & service intervals out the window.
A competitive race engine might have a 1200-1800 km life span before suggested tear down.
If you change a clutch... you should be dropping the oil pan to inspect the pump & pickup.
Many builders strongly suggest oil changes after every event.
Figure a motul 300v based oil change is ~$80 usd.
That being said... I believe there isn't an engine oil sold that would fail other than a heavy straight weight. You could use auto parts store branded stuff and not experience a failure related to oil. The reason pro wrenches use motul is because its proven & their time is already at a premium to be saving <$30 an oil change.
A few things to keep in mind. It is true race oils are not meant to last an entire recommended service interval as a street oil can go. Yamaha only recommends their race oil to be used for one weekend of racing.
So if you dont plan to change it out so often use a street oil.
yamaha uses synthetic in the new r1. Its the only recommended oil. The whole break in thing using mineral oil is simply a cost saving thing. No reason to use synthetic only to dump it 600 miles later.
Thanks for your feedback guys. I went for ***h's Silkolene Full Synthetic. Will be changing oil and filter after every 2nd race meeting which should be less than every 500km.
Love the Motul...especially when there is a good deal to be had on it. The aroma is pleasantly unique and I really like the packaging, not that those things matter with oils.
I don't understand why anyone buys expensive oil if they don't race. Even if I did race I would still use the same low cost oil I use now unless I had a sponsor supplying it. I would bet you that my Rotella T6 5w40 will hold up as well or better than all that hi price stuff. I believe it was Dec. 2016 when the new diesel mandates came out. So now we have CK-4 OILS.(HTHS). High temp high shear. That is what I want for my transmission . I just paid $22.00 for mine. I am not sure if the Mobil truck oil is CK-4 or not. But I would use that in a pinch with confidence. I'm just saying you don't need to use expensive oil. Have you ever put an oil change off because you didn't want to shell out $45.00-$55.00?
expensive is "relative". On a stock motor...youre not putting much skin in the game. Now if you have a $4500 superbike motor... then what you run in it becomes more relevant. Show me any (winning) race team crew chief that says "Go get me a gallon of rotella"... and I would concede you might be onto something. Also race motors have way different service intervals than street duty ones.
99% of oil statistics are made up to pitch you product.:wink:
