Track to street.

Hi fellow R6 forum users.

I have just bought a yamaha r6 5eb it's a track bike at the moments and I am torn between full faring or street fighter.

So I will start off my first post with a start to my build thread, hope to update it as much as possible, this is my first bike so will be asking a lot of questions.

Got delivered last night

Came with loads of parts

Cheers
Darren

Re: Track to street.

Ok before I bought the bike the guy told me about it and it has not been touched for about five years, it fired up straight away, and she seemed fine. I have just charged the battery and started her up but white smoke started coming out and seems like oil?

Any ideas??

Hasn't been touched in five years.... and you just decided to start it right up? Replace the oil and oil filter. Drain the gas tank and make sure there isn't any sediment in there. Probably need to clean the carbs also.

Smell it... May-be just dirty water caused by condensation?

5 years? Change the oil first and do a full checkup before going any further. It's been sitting for a while bro, be careful.

PS : Street fighter

Current bike : Z1000
Shortened oem slip-on, K&N filter and PC3, rizoma levers, sprocket kit

Old bike : YZF-R6
MJS shorty slip-on, K&N filter

Just as an example, one of my friends bought a 2009 Kawi 250 that had been sitting for 2 years. Decided to just start it up and ride without talking to anyone that knows anything, and it ran for a while then stopped running. He had so much sediment in his tank that it clogged everything up.

Thanks, better I asked before I damage it or cause any more problems. Will do a service and send the carbs in to be cleaned or is it easy enough to do it myself?

If you can pull them out, you can clean them. Just make sure you put them back correctly and don't break anything.

Re: Track to street.

Like I said, do a full checkup/cleanup and then start it again. You can severely damage your engine by trying to start it without proper cleanup.

-Clean carbs / drain gas tank and fill it with premium
-Put a bottle of sea foam in the tank (that stuff is great!)
-Change oil/filter
-Check for damages on the bike (wheels, bearings, broken stuff) / Clean and lube chain

It might take a while, but it's worth it.
