It sounds like you want to keep your license plate mounted as seen in the photo, and would like to cover the portion of the tail now exposed due to removing the stock plate/signal mount.
If that is the case, the unfortunate news is that you don't have many options. They just don't exist as a commercial product. Find someone to fab one up for you, fab one yourself, or find a fender eliminator that you like which uses that location as a mounting point.
(EDIT: you beat me to the post^^^ you were pretty clear about what you are after in the response)
I know its not what you want to hear, but unless you can find someone willing to part with a one-off or maybe someone who made a few extras, it's going to be a DIY project.
Some DIY projects turn out really nice, a guy on this forum did a great job fiberglassing that portion smooth on an OEM tail.
greggs custom makes one like others have stated. You could take the piece off and cut the center ring and fiberglass the area then paint it. One member did that when he removed his passenger pegs also. I plan to cut a piece of plastic and epoxy it up there
Attention 2006-2012 Yamaha R6 owners!
We are now producing closeouts/block-off plates for the hole left behind by your fender. If you have eliminated your fender and have that gaping hole in your undertail, this Anodized CNC Aluminum part w
ill solve that problem. The TST Industries Fender Eliminator kit installs a license plate bracket into the undertail between the rear pegs. This location for the license plate looks best on this bike, however it leaves that ugly hole behind. Now, with this part you can make the underside of your bike look sporty and sexy again. It is a direct fit, with no modifications required. It comes with all the hardware and is ready to install with tools found in your bike's tool kit.
This is what I have for now. I just got these on line and just posted my ads. As I get more interest in this part I will be able to provide more pictures from more installs.
TST Industries IS a "Forum Vendor". Look at the "Site Sponsor" tag under our name. We have been providing high quality parts for the R6 and R6s for years. We are a small company specializing in customer satisfaction....oh and aftermarket motorcycle parts. We design unique parts for modern Jpanese sportbikes. Our parts are not clones of something else that is out there...they are unique parts thought up in our heads and brought to the market.
Looks good but it also looks like it is necessary to trim the protruding cylinder on the undertail for proper fitment. When we designed ours we wanted to make it direct bolt on, without the necessity for modification to the bike's components. Our closeout/filler plate actually doubles as a base for a fender eliminator that mounts in place of the fender. We will be releasing that kit soon, but for now we are marketing this part as a closeout only.
I can't get over what you guys call this piece. We designed this part intending on advertising it as a "closeout" or a "filler plate". When I first sat down to advertise this part I noticed that this type of component already has a name. What a riot :nocontrol
Got my ass plug installed. There were only 2 hiccups. Firstly, the screws weren't long enough. I had to go to Lowes and by the M5x8x20 screws to get enough reach. Secondly, by installing this I discovered my subframe is cracked under the rear seat from my low side I had recently. Other than that, she installed beautifully and I think it's awesome. I love the way my plate is further back now. All in all I'm very happy. TST shipped quick and is made very nicely. Here are some pics.
We have tested those screws both on the 06-07 model and and the 08-12. Can you send me a photo from the top that shows what obstructed your install?
