But on the subject, nobody needs an R1 for street use, R6 has plenty of power and quickness, only thing it doesn't have on an R1 is top end, not really essential in my opinion unless you're a real speed freak
The 6 is all top end.... The point to a 1K like most said is bottom end.

Re: What made you choose R6 over R1?

I've had both. Love both.
When it came time to shop for a track-only bike, I knew the R6 was all I needed.

Love both for their unique differences... The 6 is light & nimble & fun to toss around. The 1 has solid handling & simply sounds amazing- with power that makes you smile ear to ear...

Yamaha's r6 & r1 still come in last place in all the performance shoot-outs. But, to me, they still have the most reliable, fun & sexiest sport machines on the market at the best $ value... Only those solely fixated on performance #'s with $ as no object would think otherwise I think.

Re: What made you choose R6 over R1?

Started 3 years ago with a FZ1 for first bike and wanted to switch to a sportbike. Found a good deal on my current R6 and that's it... I will buy a R1 when a good deal will come. Until then, I ride my 6.

Current bike : Z1000
Shortened oem slip-on, K&N filter and PC3, rizoma levers, sprocket kit

Old bike : YZF-R6
MJS shorty slip-on, K&N filter

Bike: 2009 r6
Re: What made you choose R6 over R1?

coming home from afghan i put a 300$ deposit for this guy off craigslist to hold his 2010 r1 for me. when i got home, the guy called me and stated his room mate threw a party and two guys got into a fight in his garage and knocked it over so the bike had tank damage and cosmetic issues. went down the road to our bike shop and there it was the 2009 r6 in the window, dropped my money down and took it home.

reasons why im happy i got the 6 now instead of the 1.
that was way to much bike for me
cheaper insurance
didnt wanna die

I'm small so I can handle mr R6 a bit easier.
Insurance cheaper.
More forgiving when doing 'spirited riding'

Those are my main reasons for staying on a 600 see see.

The R6 is more than enough bike for me, plus I can't afford insurance on a R1!

Re: What made you choose R6 over R1?

Because it's so much fun passing a liter bike on a 600 on the track...

And specifically the R1 ('09+)? It's a turd. It's a turd in regards to weight, to power, and to looks. I don't see why anyone would own one. They do sound cool. I'll give it that.

Magazine reviews say it puts the power down smoothly on the track, thanks to the cross plane engine. Uh, you do realize it's just down on horsepower in general, right? Compare the number to the other liter bikes. Is it really a question why it seems to "handle" better than other bikes making 20+ more HP?

If I could only choose a liter bike, the R1 would be my last choice.
