No this is not another post debating the differences between the two bikes. I'm wondering which I should choose. Here are the two deals I have in front of me.
2005 R6 with 14k miles - $3700
2004 R6 with 14k miles - $3200
both are garage kept, include rear stands, and are in great shape. the grey one has been downed once. the blue one has never been downed.
So it seems like the blue one is the obvious choice right? Well.. it has chrome wheels and swingarm. I hate that. I'd want to paint them back black. How difficult is it to remove the swing are to paint it (and wheels). Is it worth me getting a bike one year older (without the inverted front forks and slight power increase) to save $500?
Everything is nuts and bolts as long as you have the right tools. Chain breaker/ rivet tool, jackstands, torque wrench etc. If so you can get another set of wheels and swingarm, then sell them for more that what you paid for the orignials and make the bike a lil cheaper.
are the chrome dipped swingarms worth anything? you're actually 2 hours away from me, you wanna come help me with it? i'm leaning towards that bike since it hasn't been dropped before, even though I've got to do more work to it to get it to my standards..
Judging by your username, I think you already had that one picked out before you even asked the question, lol, j/k, enjoy the '04 but keep in mind you're missing out on the inverted forks, floating rotors, and larger throttle body.
Doubt anyone can really tell a diff between an '04/'05, anyways, other than slightly better handling in the '05.
Yeah I agree. It's lowered 3 inches in the back (with a vortex lowering link) and 2 inches in the front with some blocks on the forks. The rear link is adjustable to have it either 1 inch or 3 inches lowered. I think I will set it to 1 inch, but I need to find a 1 inch block to lower the front with instead of the 2 inch..
I'm also looking for a stand that I can use to cut and weld properly, since the previous owner just bent this one in order to work with the lower.
Having a 10 year old bike is hard to find in this good of condition. Finding one that unmolested in this good of condition would be nearly impossible, at least without selling my left testicle for it.
I'd suggest you keep looking for an unmolested example, there MUST be one around.
