I have an 06' and I was wondering. I just installed the air filter with the factory bolts, pretty tight I would say. Then, after I finished putting the tank back together, I noticed K&N supplied their screws with a small tube of threadlocker. I did not use their screws, but I would like to know if this is necessary???
Yes, I would use it. Otherwise you might end up with a screw down one of your throttle intakes. Some of the aftermarket air filters have little tabs just above the screws which does not allow them to completely back all the way out if loose.
for SURE !!! i personally know people who in the past, had the screws come lose and get sucked into the v-stacks/intake. Later versions for the 06 had plastic tabs over the head of the screws that would help prevent this from happening.. but i wouldn't take chances. Later models (like the 08) don't use any screws, the air filter snaps into place.
Skeeter & Melka, thanx for the input. I lifted the tank and installed the screws with threadlocker..
