Long story short was in accident I came out fine bike did not. Damage looks a lot worse considering it was just a low-side because it ended going headfirst into a guardrail. Anyways stripped the bike down as much as I could frame is cracked and missing pieces so will need a new one. Also my key flew out when the accident occured was wondering how I could test the engine to see if it's good. Any guidance or advice please and thank you. I attached some pics of how it's currently sitting.
I'd suggest getting another bike and simply using this one for parts, that thing looks pretty far gone, the effort and money involved vs. the payoff to get that thing back on the road is going to be severely unbalanced.
I can't see the pics where I'm at, but is the key (and maybe fuel tank) the only thing keeping you from trying to fire up the engine? If so, you can just do the keyless ignition mod. You can even just put some spade connectors on the wire instead of a switch since it's all going to be trashed anyway. Here's the how-to... It's written for an 05, but the newer bikes are the same.
ok so i finally got some time to look into this...i didn't buy a switch or anything but I basically just fed a copper wire to the ignition switch clip (basically making them touch) and the bike powered on...I also hooked up my starter switch and the bike cranks but is not turning over. I hear the fuel pump prime and also the click when i switches connect. Any idea on what to check now...so far i checked the battery, lean angle sensor, fuses here and there and they all seem fine.
Id think some of your wiring harness might be done for. Could be missing some connections to get the bike started.
Is it possible for you to go into diagnostic mode on the dash?
Have you pulled a spark plug to see if you are getting spark?
