So recently got a 2000 R6, when I got it the lowbeam was not working, but the highbeams would work. So I've just been riding around with my highbeams on. But now I've got nothing low or high. I've checked all the fuses there good and both relays up front I can hear them click both for high and low. So now what should I check or look for?
just because you see a filament in the bulb doesn't mean it works. hook it up to a 12v power source to check it.
and if you don't already realize it but most bike's are set up to where the lights dont come on until the engine is running. I'm pretty sure the first gen R6 was like this too. I know for a fact the 2nd gen R6 was like this.
When you turn the key to the on position the lights would come on the bike doesn't need to be running. But that's what I'm going to be doing next is testing all the wires. And I already put in new lights.
Had to ask about the bulbs, you'd be amazed at how many people just assume the bulb is not the problem.
Your next step is to get out the multimeter and check the voltages at plugs and bulb socket to verify your getting proper voltage or not. If your not then you need to move to the relays (check with multimeter even though you hear them click). There is a guide in the service manual on how to check the relays. If your getting voltage at the plugs and at the bulb socket then it can only be the bulbs. The wiring diagram in the service manual will help you trace things out.
Check the condition of the all the connections as well. Sometimes the plugs will corrode with age and impeded the flow of electricity.
hmmmm i take it that the bike doesn't have an HID kit right? If it does, check the ballasts to plugs...most cases is always exposed and can cause for connectivity issues too.
