I'm looking at a 2009 r6 with 3000 miles. Has full carbon fiber exhaust and fender eliminator. Only noticeable problem is a crack in the plastic next to the headlight. Asking price is $8000. What do you guys think a fair price would be? Located in Texas.
Fair price? I wouldnt pay over $4,000 for one. Its the best selling 600 on the market for over 10 years!
What would $8,000 get you?? Something really special like this: 2009 Yamaha R6 Expert Level Race bike | 13x Forums
BTW... dealers still sell that bike new for ~9500 for a 2016 model.
$8k for an 09? **** that. If its mint, i'd say $5500-6000 tops. Cracked fairing and who else know whats scratched up or been replaced. $4500. Everythign depends on your local market though, but no local market is gonna command $8k for that bike, even mint.
As everyone above stated, it all depends on the location and time of year. Bikes usually sell at a cheaper price in the fall due to winter approaching. I actually bought an my 09 recently, and before purchasing it, I checked the KBB value and the suggested retail was around $5500 for that year model. I ended up getting mine for $5k with 13k miles on it. I doubt that seller will let it go for $4k, especially if it's clean. People love the R6 which is why they will sell at a higher price when compared to other Japanese sportbikes. Most people will start high and negotiate down but I would definitely try to stay in the 5-6k range.
That's shenanigans. I've purchased many motor vehicles for under KBB suggested "retail value". If you check again...trading value for an 09 is below $4k at any dealership and that's with the bike being in excellent condition. Excellent meaning as close to mint as possible. If you're willing to spend that much, then you're just tossing money and not smart buying.
I have kids, so every dollar counts in my pockets specially growing up as a New Yorker :toocool::toocool::toocool:
I wouldn't pay 8 but at the same time, you aren't finding many 09s in my area at 4grand. Especially for low miles, like the one described. I agree with Lone R6.
not only that...if you go to an auction...i can buy your bike (14 r6) for probably less than $5k....all i need is go with my friend (who's a dealer). Most of those bikes are repo's from stunners, drug dealers, or people unable to pay for them for whatever the cause. 80% of the time they're in mint condition too.

Auctions are a whole different story. Bikes can be had for pretty cheap there because sellers just want to sell. Most private sellers don't think about about bringing their bike to an auction to try and sell it. Lets be honest, most of the bikes at auctions are either crashed, received lack of care/maintenance, or they're in good condition but the person just didn't pay their bill so it ended up there. If I was you, I'd really start buying and selling because you seem to know how to get all the good deals for low mileage bikes in stunning condition :cheers
yeah but no mention of a title/status. That alone is worth $600-$1000.
All my race bikes are clean titled vehicles.
On 2 fronts... for insurance & affirmation the vehicle is MINE & nobody elses.
Ive seen guys in tears as the local PD came & wheeled their bike off to impound as they had no legal paperwork to prove ownership. A handwritten bill of sale or screen shot of a craigslist ad means bupkiss.
07 R6 w/ only 3000k miles for under $5k...i know is far from you but is less than 100 miles from me. clean title and all...the only thing he said that might be have a negative is a cig burn on the driver seat and a little rust on chain. The slip on he got installed on that bike is a little scratched from when he dropped the bike.
Only spend 8K if it is brand new in the crate AND you personally witness them uncrating it.
I bought my 09 last year with 7k on the odometer for $3800. It needed some minor body work but that was a non-factor for me because I was targeting track use.
What do y'all think about the NADA Guides? Thats what everyone around here is using to try and justify their high prices. According to NADA 7k is average selling price for an 09 if I remember right.
the NADA black book is pretty accurate. Of course you pay for that subscription if youre a dealer & it uses real auction data.
Gives you 4 prices... from clean to rough. I think there is also an arrow that points in 3 directions to let you know how prices are trending.
The retail guide might be abit "happy" especially when you check all the options. Number wise... maybe 15-20% difference in price.
I, personally, don't think that this is accurate (or realistic, I should say)….at all. To me, it is definitely on the High side. Why is it asking if my "2014 R6" is fully faired or windshield only??? Like I said….a bike is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If you are patient, you can find a properly motivate seller…..especially with winter coming up. 2014 Yamaha YZF-R6 (Matte Gray) Prices and Values - NADAguides

thats the retail guide. The wholesale version of it is alot less generous. High price is $6200 in last months publication. Also keep in mind you only need to have 1 verified sale to qualify the high number.
Ahh! Resurrected1 kill em! I'm telling you...these freaking buyers are some sketchy mofos...When i sell my stuff im fair on price...usually it gets bought on first inquiry or interest. Still deciding whether to sell my 05 now or not..if i do I'm willing to let it go for $1.5k (give or take) but not all buyers are the same.
haha i used offerup too...greatest app ever invented.
