Just bought my "new" 2012 R6 today.
Feel like a kid on Christmas day. I will have to wait 4 more weeks before I can upgrade to a full open motorcycle license so it is being stored undercover in the meantime.
- 23.5km on the clock
- Short racing/adjustable levers
- Big Gun tailpipe (muffler delete)
- Michelin Pilot 3s
- Fender eliminator
- Heavy duty chain
- New sprockets, -1 on front
Seller mentioned he changed the gearing as the pull up to 7,000 was equivalent to a LAMS bike (Australian licensing laws, first year riders limited to certain bikes inc. ninja 300, cbr250 etc)
I have been riding for 11 months on a CBR250R and consider myself a sensible rider. Haven't had any offs, I always ride within my comfort zone etc but still I would be lying if I said I wasn't intimidated when I sat on this thing. This thing is loud and has a GORGEOUS ring, typical high-pitched whir of 4x150cc cylinders.
First thing I noticed was the very aggressive riding stance. It's night and day compared to the Honda. I can flatfoot my CBR no worries at 5'8" and on the R6 I can get both my balls of my feet on the ground and still be very stable. Probably will have to rest on the rear brake if stopping at a hill.
For a bigger bike I was expecting it to be very heavy but this thing just loves tipping. I did hear it was a bit 'scary' going around slow corners but to be honest, it felt easier to turn this thing at slow corners than the 250. I was very concerned about myself just twisting the throttle but of course, you respect the beast and it'll be your best friend. Throttle is quite manageable and it's up to me to resist temptation.
First thing to do will be to put the rear seat cowl on and remove rear pegs. Also might be getting a Toce exhaust, handle-bar mounted mirrors and steering dampener.
