Diagnostic Scanner/Reader...

Hey Guys,

This may be a dumb question but I would assume one can use a Diagnostic Tool, i.e. a ODBII scanner to pull the code off of the ECU right? Or is there a specific yamaha tool which only a dealer has. Just wondering since my check engine light just came on and I'm trying to figure what code is it throwing. Ive been having idle problems lately...I've read this may be due to the PCIII i have and not having the correct maps. Thoughts anyone???

Re: Diagnostic Scanner/Reader...

turn off your bike and turn on the ignition. the number should be toward the bottom left on the lcd...

and i THINK you hold both buttons and turn the ignition to get in diagnostic mode...not positive

Re: Diagnostic Scanner/Reader...

the bike has a built in diagnostic scanner already..YaY Yamaha!
download the service manual. it shows you how to check them and what they mean. also you can check all of the circuits too.
why cars don't have this feature is beyond me.
