Almost Crashed the '17 today..
So I was accelerating pretty hard, front pretty light when I hit what I think was a construction/bumpy area of the road and the bike went into a shockingly viscous tank slapper for about 6 sec., I was going about 70mph at that point and I thought for sure I was going over the bars. I had quite a bit of time to process what was going on, I just didn't think there was any chance I was going to regain control. I instinctively pulled in the clutch and fought the bars, everything I could do to stay upright, and then it just stopped as quickly as it started. Brakes were gone of course as all the fluid had been violently shaked out so I pumped the lever to get the pressure back in the lines.
You know what I was thinking during those 6 seconds?.. OMG this bike doesn't have a steering damper! Can't believe it. All of my liter bikes have had ESDs (electronic steering damper), my zx-10r, my H2, even my fz-10 came with an ESD. Wow.
So I have a manual Ohlins steering damper that I bought used off a 2012 zx-10r and I had sent it in to Dan Kyle racing to have it re-valved which I used on my zx10 racebike... anyone know if this will work on the '17 R6? Or what are you guys using? Or better yet does Yam offer a damper made for this bike?
excuse me while I go change my shorts now...
