Valve Adjustment

I was told to have this done when the bike hits 25000 or close to it. I called up my local dealer and asked for a quote: 370$ and he informed me I shouldve gotten it done at 16000 instead. I trust my friends more than I do them.

So thats my question: should I get the valves adjusted? I dont know how to do it and the bike really feels groggy throughout the powerband. Sluggish is the word. Someone did mention it could be my spark plugs due to the mileage. I will change out all four and see how it rides. Suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

I would definitely find a reputable Indy mechanic to do it rather than the stealership or build the courage to tackle it urself as a learning experience. 26k is what the service manual suggest. Spark plugs will definitely help with sluggish issue or at least it did with mine.

Re: Valve Adjustment

It says in the manual to have them checked at 24k, doesn't mean it needs to be adjusted. I checked mine at 26k and they were all in spec. I checked them again at 36k and everything is still good to go. Just pick up some feeler gauges and check them yourself, if you do find one out, then you can decide if you want to do it yourself or take it somewhere. As far as the sluggishness, CHANGE YOUR PLUGS. I change mine every 5k miles or every other oil change. Our bikes are really hard on plugs, it chews them up fast and thats why they have dual ground plugs (they last longer because there is more surface to wear out before the gap gets to big). CR10ek plugs by the way. don't waste your money in the iridium.
