I'd like to know this as well. So I see I have to remove the headers. Do I need to replace the header gaskets as it says in the service manual or do I not have to worry about them. And what exact kind of sealant do I need to use for the oil pan gasket? I see several types of yamabond on their website.

It can move and fall out of place, so when you go to put the pan back in it doesn't fit right. And idk about the header gaskets. Maybe your supposed to... but I didn't and no problems from me. And I just went and used good ole Permatex RTV

I reuse the old gasket. I don't make a new one using the above copper sealant. I just use a light dab on one side to make sure they sit in the head and don't fall out when you try putting the header back on.

Yamabond semi drying gasket will do you fine for the oil pan

Re: Oil Pan Write up?

i would not re-use header gaskets, they compress after use, and conform to the position the header got tightened down, once taken off they will not work perfect again.

yamaha for some reason charges a lot of them, and my dealers never have them in stock.
i would go to suzuki they sell singles for ~2$

the reason i would not skimp on that is because youll have an air leak at the connection and the bike will sound weird/ not run correctly.

Yeah, don't skimp on the gaskets for the oil pan. However, I've removed a lot of headers and I've yet to get new header gaskets.

Things I am sick of explaining on this forum:
  • What's the difference between an R6 and an R6s? HERE
  • Should I start on a 600 or a 250? HERE
  • How do I ask the forum a question and actually get an answer? HERE
  • Where do I find a map for my Bazzaz? HERE
  • Should I get a 520 kit for MOA POWAH? HERE
  • How does rotating mass work? HERE

Re: Oil Pan Write up?

Well I am definitely going to replace the oil pan gasket. Already got a new one on order with the dealer, supposed to come in tomorrow. Do I need to use an RTV gasket maker though in addition to the new gasket? Or do I not need to use any sealant with the oil pan gasket. Kind of confused now.

Re: Oil Pan Write up?

There is a paper gasket that you can buy. P/N 2C0-13414-01-00. It is important that you use this gasket to control oil splash and keep oil from clinging to the crank.

It is not necessary to put any kind of coating on this gasket but some people put some of that gasket maker on both sides of the paper gasket to insure no leaks

It's a track bike... I don't really give a shit about the sound.
