I am still convinced they have a massive gorilla at the factory torquing that nut on. Three times now I was unable to get it off with a breaker bar or 1/2" impact gun. Required a trip to the local truck shop where they blasted it off with the massive 1" impact.
I have a 3/4" impact. I am not sure the strength of it though but it was unable to do anything.
The sprocket has been swapped out before so it is not the factory that did this.
I will get a picture posted of the lock nut to make sure I have it flared out correctly. It was done in such I way I will need to replace it.
OP: sometimes I end up putting a block of wood through the rim to get the wheel to stop rolling. You don't want to put the bike in gear to take off the front sprocket. Using the block of wood may help give you some leverage.
Service manual just calls for loctite. Blue should be fine, otherwise you're going to need heat to get the red off again. You'll also be staking the drive nut, so as long as you do that and torque it properly it's not going to come off. The torque spec is 61ft/lbs.
Not sure the issue. I have a 3 foot breaker bar. Ive heated the nut with a torch lighter. Hold the brakes and run a board in the rear wheel. Still nothing.
Impact. You need one. I've taken every one off with a 3/4 Hilti cordless. Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Aprilia..... Whatever.
Also, don't put it in gear and use a new nut.
I have a Milwaukee 3/4 electric impact that has taken off ANYTHING. It's been passed around the race paddock before being borrowed. I would say it looks like yours is a case of a aftermarket sprocket put on with an impact like mine and they got a little too hamfisted with the trigger.
Thanks again everyone for the info.
On a brighter note I had to change out the sprockets cause I had the wrong gearing for last weekends race. I did however hit several personal best laptimes and placed a 7th when starting at the back of the grid. Next season will be sweet on the r6.
