R6 ECU Technical Questions

Hey everyone- My name is Jimmy, and I am a powertrain engineer for a company in Detroit. I am working on a project involving some electronics and ecu tuning on an '08 R6 and R1. I am sure there is a ton of knowledge on this board, and I am hoping that someone can help me learn a little more about the fuel system and ECU management on the R6.

So anyways, here are some questions I need answers for. I am a frequent poster on several other message boards, and I am aware of the typical 'search' or 'rtfm' responses. I have done an extensive amount of research already, so please don't just tell me to use the search key. I already have.

First, are there any current manufacturers of bolt-on adjustable fuel pressure regulators for yamaha platforms? I am aware of the yec reg that is discontinued. I have searched and searched, and found nothing. If anyboy knows of a manufacturer that produces such an item, please point me in the right direction.

Now for some tech questions about the ems yamaha uses on these bikes; is there a fault code or scan system other than the 'gauge cluster' fault code scan on the bike? We are running these bikes on a dyno, and want to be able to view, real-time if at all possible, the fuel trims the ecu is applying to the tables. This is a built in function of every factory scan tool I have ever used, but it appears there is no scan tool for Yamaha.

Second, does anyone have any info about the fuel adjustment schemes in the factory ECU? Specifically, does the bike utilize a long term, short term, or hybridized scheme for adaptive fuel trim? We have been trying to figure this stuff out, but everyone at Yamaha is (not surprisingly) very reluctant to tell us about the programming system they have in place.

Anyways, if anybody has any of this info, I would greatly appreciate the help. Feel free to pm me on this forum if you don't want to post in my thread.

Thanks in advance!

Jimmy

Re: R6 ECU Technical Questions

From what i understand the stock ecu is not programable to the degree you looking for. However they do offer a racing unit that comes with the software you need to set your fuel maps ignition curves and monitors. http://www.motorcycletoystore.com/sp...yec/c_241.html

It looks like this might also be an option.
http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=Flash+Tune+R6
It lets you re flash your stock ECU yourself

This one you HAVE to have a Y.E.C. ECU and then the interface cable...

http://www.schnitzracingstore.com/ca...showprevnext=1 Fuel pressure regulator that I have used with an R6 before.

I'm doing research as well. The ebay unit looks pretty legit. The only thing I'm curious about what it can adjust besides fuel.

We hack the Suzuki ECU's at work and works like a charm. The Busa ECU is a thing of beauty (hate to say it). Over rev, afr, can set ignition kill time for air shifter, nitrous, tune for boost, correct speedometer, shift light, just a whole bunch of cool shit.

Re: R6 ECU Technical Questions

Seems to indicate that you can change the throttle "maps" as well, this is what concerns me:

This product is still under development and it is offered as a pre-production without warrantee.
Might wait till it finished.

*edit* I sent them an email with some questions, we'll see what they say.

07 R6, MJS Header, GYTR slip on, smog block offs, K&N, flashed ECU, PCV, AutoTune, -1/+2.

Re: R6 ECU Technical Questions

This was the response to my email I sent the seller, sounds like this is essentially a way to do the YEC reflash yourself.

this does allow for timing changes, as well as high and low load fuel maps, injector proportioning, engine braking adjustment and removing throttle map restrictions. this model is not compatible with the 06-07 but your version will be released on Monday. thanks for your intrest and keep in touch

*edit* I sent them a couple more questions, this is definitely interesting.

unfortunately not...YEC is one step beyond (I would say 2..)....you can have a different fuel map (ONLY one, YEC has 2)...Acceleration control is not present, ignition can't be modified..it also does not have quickshifter, ram air compensation and bunch of other features....it seams more like somebody working for jettuning one day decided to screw them up....

what can be done from YEC is still a dream...

Re: R6 ECU Technical Questions

It says high and low load fuel maps? They say ignition timing can be modified, as well as throttle map?

This is the second email I got from them:

Quote:
yes this gives you the functionality of a YEC ECU without loosing your gauges lights and diagnostics and it can be used multiple times. the 06-07 unit will be the same price but its release date has been pushed back to later this week due to a small glitch we caught at the track this weekend

This is what jettuning has been done for ages...third level reprogramming....but the firmware is fully stock...it still uses less than half the power of the YEC computer...check points are still the stock one...is like starting the computer on DOS mode or UNIX....it simply...another computer...
this is a printout from the YEC software

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

If you want YEC you need to purchase YEC ...if you want jettuning you can purchase the programmer.

Out of all our members, does anyone have the hardware/software to hack an ECU?
