darkstarVIII 12-13-2009, 10:11 AM A good fight card and some decent matches. That Bj Penn vs Diego Sanchez fight should go down as the best fight in UFC history! Sanchez's stand up is top notch and he damn near couldn't land a shot. I'd say he didn't he even inflict any damage to Penn at all. Penn embarrassed that dude for 4 or 5 rounds.
Jason D 12-13-2009, 11:22 AM That cut on Diego's forehead was unreal!!!:scared
I dont think you can call such a one sided fight the "best UFC fight in history" though.
Didnt take very long for Mir to put Kongo to sleep either!!!
fyrefyter0143 12-13-2009, 11:25 AM BJ Penn > Diego Sanchez.....
I dunno about the best fight ever, but it was up there.....
Ctown 12-13-2009, 02:18 PM diego got made a fool of...
he landed a total of maybe 4 shots on BJ... 2 of which came from a push off the fence dirty boxingish.
Penn looked the best hes ever looked and i dont see ANYONE at 155 that can match up to him.
NoHoR6 12-13-2009, 02:51 PM BJ Penn did the exact same thing GSP did to him, he dominated Sanchez. Sanchez is a monster, stayed in the ring after the fight and basically took the beating like a man. But they dont call Penn the Prodigy for nothing. The fight itself was by no means the best fight of any era, it was good.

I wouldn't even rank that in the top 10 MMA bouts of the year. Too one sided and there's a whole lot of talent outside the UFC, mind you.
Sanchez stand up is far from top notch. The way he runs behind his punches doesn't generate a lot of power, he pushes his punches and they're nothing more than arm punches. They're fast though. Not fast enough for BJs head movement :fact

I've thought for a long time Shinya Aoki will be the only real contender but even he wont be able to handle BJs stand up... and you'll never see that fight in the UFC. Eddie Alvarez would be entertaining as hell too.
darkstarVIII 12-13-2009, 08:48 PM I understand it was onesided but the display of skill by BJ was more impressive than the fighters I've seen lately. I think he has an intresting blend of defense and offense. So well that you don't know when he's on the offense sometimes. He takes the Jiu Jitsu mentality to stand-up. In Jitz you can be in trouble and not always know it. Swearing the whole time that you got it bagged because your the aggressor(noobz mindset) etc.. When the whole time dude has you pegged and is walking you into his trap. Diego Sanchez is no bum by any stretch of the imagination.
If you've been watching a while> check out his fight against Roger Huerta. He is usually able to put together some nasty combos. To neutralize someone with many different stand up skill sets is an awesome display of skill.

you want to see display of skill? try to find the anderson silva vs forest griffen fight! anderson silva is a complete badass!!!!

1. I said best fight in UFC history! Not MMA as a whole.
2. Sanchez stand up is beyond decent. See his match with Roger Huerta another great fight. Most of his mistakes came from all that bravado and anger meditation sh!t he did pre-firght. Way to stiff and way over the top! He will look back at this and fill like a gay bullfighter in Spain!
I'm impressed with his ability to neutralize dudes offense. I mean like he was dealing with a child. It says a ton about what level he's on as a fighter. As far as that kick to the dome... I called that when he went for a leg kick earlier. I told everyone in the room that was a dry run for a headshot later.
D DEEZY 12-13-2009, 08:55 PM Didn't Slice fight?
darkstarVIII 12-13-2009, 09:00 PM Oh and uhhh Cheick Congo is just big thats it. No ground game what so ever and in truth is scared to trade and stay in the pocket unless he has someone rocked. Savat alone isn't enough. I knew Mir's was gonna lay his ass out or tap em! Mir stand up is better than it ever was.
lopez95632 12-13-2009, 09:04 PM Didn't Slice fight?
that was last weekend i belive at the ultimate fighter finally! he actualy did very well! he faught houston alexander, went to unanimous decision and he got the win.

I saw that one and was impressed as well. I like Anderson Silva as a fighter too. I'd like to see him be as aggressive as Penn though. Anderson likes to fight off of defense he'd be more exciting to watch if he was more aggressive. Then again he'd probably end up getting caught slipping more often too!

yup everyone has there own style. just look at lyota machida! i personaly belive anderson silva makes it look just so easy. he made a complete fool out of griffin... i guess griffin needed the win over tito to get his pride partially back.

i believe penn was mainly doing the same thing... i dont understand why he does that, he seems to look like he could of finished that fight a lot earlier... kinda like with K-flo samething... he just turned it on in the last round and defeated both of them...
seemed like he could of done that by at least the third round...

Nice
DSTAR 12-14-2009, 05:05 AM slice fought last weekend on spike. on the slow-mo replay when diego forehead split was crazy.
darkstarVIII 12-14-2009, 05:42 AM That gash was insane!!! RoFFL busted to the white meat! Oh the bravado and show boating before the fight was just comedy! He's gonna look back and think "damn that's just embarrassing". I still can't believe he got handled like he did!?!
Dakota11 12-14-2009, 06:04 AM Didn't Slice fight?Nah, that was last Saturday at the TUF Finale. He beat Houston Alexander.
I tell ya, that was a impressive win by Mir. Kongo didn't even have a chance to show off his standup game. Mir just took him down with a looping left hook

I know what you said. IMO, that doesn't break top 10 greatest fights in the UFC this year.
I think that opinion depends on what skills the viewer is able to understand though.

speedy_g 12-14-2009, 08:04 AM Sanchez got dominated big time! He was like Minnie me fighting Austin powers “Poor little bugga’, I salute you! “ lol. He just kept trying and trying to take down Penn…yeah, didn’t happen. i was suprised Sanchez lasted so long, Penn left Sanchez :dizzy after the nice combo in the firsts round

Okay big deal! You know how to use the Internet. I may have mixed confused fighters. He fought Nick Diaz in a hell of a fight.
"I know what you said. IMO, that doesn't break top 10 greatest fights in the UFC this year. "
You said you felt it wasn't one of the best in MMA overall. I said UFC duke! Don't get smarmy.
"I think that opinion depends on what skills the viewer is able to understand though."
Okay so now you're a guru? No the opinion depends on what the viewer likes to see, thats why they call it an opinion...:dunce:
IMO a good fights not always necessarily a fight where both opponents are putting up an equal amount of effort or an equally great performance. Sometimes a great fight IMO can come down to neutralizing another fighters effectiveness, especially when the fighter is getting whooped in a territory they like to dominate in.

You're awfully fcukin smug. You should join the Sherdog forums, you'd fit in. A bunch of MMA ignorance from guys who couldn't lock in a RNC.
Yes, I also said I don't think it was one of the top 10 in the UFC THIS YEAR, let alone all time... DUKE!
And call me a guru if it means I know which fighters I'm talking about when I gloat about their skill and prowess.

The Tude came from your end my man. I'm just stating my opinion on the fight. I didn't ask for a critique of what my opinion should be. I don't care if you train or if you're a diehard armchair fan in your mama's basement. If you didn't like the fight then say you didn't like the fight! Again as far whether I could close that rear naked choke? Why even speculate?:flex::swordfigh:homo

Oww uncle! I tapped to your MMA stat prowess! I was wrong... It cost me nothing.
imaking20 12-17-2009, 09:06 PM Eef, all this and I never even said I didn't enjoy the fight. I did, thoroughly. I was glad to see BJ as devoted and conditioned as I anticipated he was gonna be. I think he'll probably hold a death grip on that top spot at 155 as long as he wants to... it's unfortunate his camp already started talking about 170 again (and Dana hinted at accepting it). It was a great fight and one of his most dominating performances in any weight class (considering how game Diego is), I just wish Diego would have pushed more. He knew he didn't have anything for him on the feet and that single leg approach was getting old (poor corner work didn't help, when you have two jiu jitsu coaches of course they're just gonna say "take heen down"). To me, it looked like he didn't REALLY want it any more after the 3rd. Not that he physically quit, but I think he mentally just didn't know what to do any more
darkstarVIII 12-17-2009, 09:11 PM I agree I think he quit as well. BJ had a alot to do with him quitting and that takes longer to heal than that huge as gash on his forehead.
NoHoR6 12-17-2009, 09:15 PM i been watching ufc since before Dana White and the Fertita brothers even came up with the shit, so both DARKSTAR and IMAKING need to stfu, neither one of you guys knows shit. Oh for sure. Diego doesn't just go out and quit, ever. BJ made him quit, something I'm not sure I've ever seen him do before (ok, MAYBE pulver 2), he doesn't usually have the tank to do so. It will be interesting to see his next fight, but he IS :screwy kinda mentally strong, so I'd imagine he'll shake it off.
