: LG 55lh40 TV
kalibos 12-23-2009, 04:27 PM does anyone here have an LG 55lh40 lcd tv? if you do, what do you think about it?
i'm thinking about picking one up tomorrow and can't decide between it or the Samsung LN52B550 which is 3" smaller but is about the same price and specs.
I've seen a couple of electronics review sites and they all seem to rate the LG's as one of the best tv's but they also rate the Samsung highly.
i have a samsung that i bought a couple years ago and am not impressed with it... it has never been right since day one. it is a DLP and looks like crap with wavy red and blue lines across the screen since the day i bought it.
rmerchant3 12-23-2009, 04:40 PM Samsung FTMFW!!! Samsung Kills in what you get for the price.
kalibos 12-23-2009, 04:48 PM the only thing i don't like is that the samsung has a 5ms refresh rate and the LG is 2.7ms
rmerchant3 12-23-2009, 04:56 PM I've come to find after TONS of research on home theater that specs are a good baseline, but seeing the TV's in action are a lot better basis. Take Vizio for example. They post up some pretty impressive specs, but when put next to the competition they get outshined almost everytime. What will you be using this TV mainly for. Television, sports, Movies, Gaming...???
kalibos 12-23-2009, 05:03 PM mostly be using it for television and gaming...really a little bit of everything since it will be replacing the samsung in the living room.
so the LG isn't a good tv?
rmerchant3 12-23-2009, 05:17 PM The LG is a great T.V. I personally just think that for the same money you could get a Samsung that might perform better.

It's not your exact tv, but it's in the same line.

There are a lot of samsung's in their top picks. cnet does a good job of reviewing electronics accurately. I personally went with a Samsung plasma when I bought my TV. I am more into movies though and love the smoothness and deep blacks that a plasma offer over LCD. Plus you get NONE of that digital blur in fast motion scenes. A lot of people are saying that plasma is a dying technology, and it is. Not because of it being inferior...but because the huge rush towards new technology and energy efficiency. And right now, LCD is just that. Lets not even start on LED (lcd) tv's. :)
If I was in the market, this is where my money would go. http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/samsung-pn50b850/4505-6482_7-33490381.html?tag=mncol;lst
kalibos 12-23-2009, 05:31 PM the problem with getting a plasma is that the room has a large floor to ceiling window that lets in alot of light and i don't want to have to shut it just to watch the tv.
i'm looking for a 55" with around $1600 to spend, what would be your choice?
rmerchant3 12-23-2009, 06:02 PM That's pushing it to get a really nice tv in that size at that price range. If you could go down to a 52 in that same range it opens WAY more options. Any of the Samsung LN series are really good tv's. Don't worry about the window much. Even my plasma doesn't do too bad with the blinds open. LCD's definitely do a better job of not reflecting light though.
My choice in a 55 is...
Samsung LN55B650 It's said to have slight lighting issues, but shouldn't affect you too much. That's $1800 though. Like I said the same one in a 52" is $1300
We have this bar close to where I live that I frequent. They have two Large brand new Samsungs up on the wall. Hands down BEST picture I have seen in a TV. I'll have to ask them what model it is next time I'm up there.
guy_likewhoa 12-23-2009, 06:09 PM dude, between 2.7 and 5ms refresh rate, your eyes won't be able to tell the difference. I have the samsung LN52b610. most amazing TV i've owned. I used to be a sharp aquos guy, but the samsungs are amazing
TopR6 12-23-2009, 06:30 PM i bought a sony bravia 52" 1080p etc etc for 1400 at best buy like 5 months ago.
its good enough for me and it connects to my ps3 and shit

Stand by.......disagreement coming in fast.
Had a Samsung LCD, name a problem that can exist with a T.V. and I had it with that one. I will never buy a Samsung T.V. again.
I have a Vizio now and love it. Seriously can't beat them as far as bang for buck. Buy it at Costco with an American Express and you get a 3 year warranty for free. If you gotta have big name brand electronics go buy what you want, but I guarantee you you won't be disappointed with a Vizio. Just fact. :fact
rmerchant3 12-23-2009, 06:44 PM I see where you are coming from. My first bike was a Honda CBR. I fixed it more than I rode it. I have the same mentality towards Honda motorcycles that you do towards Samsung TV's.
Just doesn't mean they are all bad apples though.
To agree with you though. For what you get, the price of a Vizio is hard to beat.
D DEEZY 12-23-2009, 06:45 PM Why'd you have to go and bring Vizio into it though? :nono
rmerchant3 12-23-2009, 06:49 PM Vizio has a name to itself to make lower end TV's that's all. But, in today's world it takes a videophile to pick out all the small differences that a higher end TV offers (that's why I state vizio is a good bang for the buck). They are there though :fact
I for one am completely obsessed with home theater. Almost as much as bikes, so when it comes to details...I look at EVERYHTING.
D DEEZY 12-23-2009, 06:54 PM You're hurting my feelings. :(
rmerchant3 12-23-2009, 07:02 PM :lmao Your good man! Your TV works for you and that's what matters. I usually find that I research for weeks before making an electronics purchase then never use half the features when it comes in anyhow. I'm stubborn like that!
Now it's time to drink....so don't take any of my advise on tv's after this post. :) :drink
D DEEZY 12-23-2009, 07:11 PM :laugh I guess we'll just call it even then. What's on tap this evening?
rmerchant3 12-23-2009, 10:51 PM Apparently crown, rum, blue moon, and amaretto. Ugh. I gotta be at work at 8 in the morning.
kalibos 12-24-2009, 08:38 AM well...i went with the samsung ln55b650.
i found it on sale for $1,622...
