DDM Tuning Raptor HID Kit

I bought this kit a couple weeks ago after seeing how popular it was on this forum, thanks to Agg2001. Although the kit was backordered, it only took about a week and a half for it to be processed and shipped to my house. The kit was flawless, no mechanical problems or anything. I didn't use the instructions included because Agg has already posted a great How-To thread which made the installation pretty easy. The whole installation from tear down to re-assembled took about 3 hours or so, with a lot of distraction from my idiot friend. :lmao

Anyway, I'd give this kit a 5/5 star rating for both affordability ($44 shipped to FL!) and performance (they look great!).

I recommend this kit to anyone looking to get some HIDs.

No idea. This post: http://www.r6-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86154 has a lot of people with Angel Eyes and projector mods, so maybe one of them has some more info in that field.

Another thanks to you Agg. That "how to" was excellent. It helped me and I'm sure it helped more than just a few other people.

Which kit is better the Apexcone Raptor HID Kit or DDM 35W & 55W Dual Motorcycle HID Kit or Slim Kit and which bulb type H7?

The 2006+ R6s use the H7 bulb. I don't know as much about the Dual kit, but I know that the Raptor kit is very widely recommended on the forum and that it is the cheapest of its kind. The ballasts on the Raptor kit were a little large, but they fit perfectly in the fairings. I put the left one just above the turn signal and the right one snug into the frame/fairing near the trans. The look great and the lights perform superbly.

Im curious too... Could I use this on my 03? and 35w or 55w?

The raptor kit is only 29.95 w/o shipping... http://www.ddmtuning.com/

I went with the slim ballast for ease of concealment...Haven't gotten them in yet, but it was recommended by another member that has them. As I understand it, the 55W is for larger vehicles and could get a little warm on your bike.

Thank you!

This kit is fairly inexpensive and I told everyone I wasn't going to "mod" my bike but I might have to do this. Hahaa

This thread may help with the locations of ballasts, different approach for connections and such.

One thing I would like to mention it is to do it the right way taking the front end off completely. Short cuts will cause broken tabs, nicks, cuts and a lot of time wasted in using profanity.

I got 55 watt slim ballast on mine with 8000k, perfect shade of purplish tint. They really dont get that warm on the bike. Have had them on for about 30 mins at the longest and just a little warm. I would expect the high heat would be in a fog light really tiny spaces like those might melt something.

Of course.

And I just check, the 03's or atleast mine, has an H7 bulb... and is rated at 55watts stock.

Hmmm... the 35watt kit or 55watt kit

35W is plenty. Unless you want to mess with relays, risks of messed up wiring and housing over time.

I was also curious about the extra heat from the 55w kit. So I used a temperature gun and measured the heat from the stock H7 bulbs to the DDM 55w kit in 5000K (I don't know if the color makes much difference in heat.) It was difficult to get an exact temperature reading, so I will give a range of multiple attemps.

I let both sets warm up for about 5 minutes.

Results:
Stock H7 bulbs: ranged from 380-420 degrees

DDM 55W 5000K: ranged from 640-680 degrees

This is quite a difference, but I am not sure that it gives off enough ambient heat to melt the housing. I guess I'll try them and hope for the best. :eek5

Note: There are kits out there from some other higher end companies (retro-solutions i.e.) that use true 55w bulbs with their 55w kits that do run cooler than the stock bulbs. This kit uses the same bulbs for the 35w kit as the 55w kit and that is why they run hotter.

35 watt HIDs are plenty of light. I had ran 55 watt DDM in my car a while back, but then switched over to 35watt Xtreme HIDs. The 35watt give off more than enough light at night.

I went thru 3 ballasts on the DDM kit in just 2 months. Ofcourse they did warranty each one, but it sucked to have to uninstall...pay for shipping and reinstall them each time. This is why im nervous to buy the DDM raptor kit for 40.

What color do the 6000k's really look like at night? Are they closer to an ice blue or pure white?

my buddy has 6000ks on his suburban, not sure of the make, but they are pure white. Dont quote me on this, but i think most cameras skew the actual light's colour in most shots... but that's just a vague stab in the dark =p
