Just finished a ride down Devil's Highway (old Route 666) today, better known nowdays as US 191 North from Clifton to Alpine. It is an 83 mile stretch with 427 curves in it. It is a knee draggers paradise! Here are a couple of links with some info about it:

This ride is no joke, the decreasing radius turns will sneak right up on you. If you ride, be careful and watch out for the 18 wheelers near the mine! If anyone has ridden this before, gimma shout and let me know what you thought!

Actually been meaning to do that ride. I am in Kingman now and my only options are going toPrescott via Baghdad and Kirkland. I hae some friends coming next year and I would like to take them up that route.

Would you consider this a day ride or should camping or hotel be considered?

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Also, someone had a map of it online. Wish I could find it. Heard it was awesome, but will wear you out.

The famous Morenci mine.

Lots of history in that area. Would be a badass ride.
I've ridden the roads around Jerome and Prescott Valley. Awesome riding up there if you're in the Phoenix Area.

I live in Sierra Vista, which is about 150 miles from Clifton. Me and 2 other buddies trailered our bikes to Clifton so we could save our energy for the ride. For lack of better words, it is a technical ride, it will wear you out. I would recommend either getting a hotel in Safford, Alpine or Clifton. If you start in Safford and go to Alpine, it is 123 miles one way, with all the curves mixed in. There are plenty of places to camp along the way in Coronado National Forest also. I would say it is a two day trip. Some parts of the road have been freshly paved, so there is still some loose gravel here and there, but not bad, and there are the occasional rocks in the road that slide down the canyon walls. The only disconcerting thing about the ride is there are no guardrails at all, and there are some steep cliffs. I recommend riding at max 40-50% of your capabilities. If you go, you'll see what I mean.....

Nice map, but the one I saw was a great topo with eveything on it. Want to say it was on a Phoenix M/C board or something. No big deal. Any map will get me there. Besides, RIDING it is much better than a DETAILED map of it.

On the drive there, we saw two Highway Patrols in Safford and that was it. I think the only reason we saw them there is because there is a DPS office in Safford. I spoke with a few of the locals and was told that there is never any cops on 191. This was my second time taking this trip and I have never seen a cop one on any part of the good stuff. Hell, you hardly see any other vehicles on the road at all.

Try this link: http://www.terraserver.com/imagery/image_usgs.asp?cpx=-109.1462794&cpy=33.81256978&usgs_res=14&provider_id=200&t=pan

That was the start of 191 in Alpine, here is a little further down the road when it starts winding: http://www.terraserver.com/imagery/image_usgs.asp?cpx=-109.31937953&cpy=33.56058994&usgs_res=14&provider_id=200&t=pan

It is an aerial view of 191 starting at Alpine. You can use the pan buttons to follow it anywhere you want. The litte map to the top right will tell you what you are looking at.

I practice all my turns and sweeps, on Mingus mountain going through Jerome. I basically go up there 2 to 3 times, last week I went up through Payson through Campverde, the sweeps were great, was leaning near 120 mph on the long bends.. I loved it and besides the cool air hitting me was nice.
