ok, so first of all, hello to everyone.
secondly, took the R6 out the othernight, got gas, and now it runs like absolute crap.
i thought to myself, ok, bad gas, no biggie, ran the tank out, filled up wiht sunoco 94. no better. replaced the one badly burnt coil,
no better.
replaced spark plugs, starts up a hell of a lot better, but still bogs.
it seriously feels like my old 83 virago 750. its louder with a deeper tone, extremely low on all range power expecially top end, and just overall sluggish.
any suggestions?
at this point i'm thinking an airflow sensor or something.
it wasn';t a gradual change however, it was fairly overnight.
thanks for the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh yea, 99r6, 15k miles, new oil change

First thought that comes to my mind is.... Well, the SECOND thought that comes to mind is a clogged jet. If you got some dirty gas, it could have clogged up your jets. I would try some carb cleaner, and a look see at the inside of the carbs.

Could also be the rest of the coils going bad also. Sounds like you're either getting partial spark, or partial fuel/air flow.

I would start there.

i say the same. check your fuel filter as well. also try pulling your plug again and see if its fouled?

You might ant to try checking your throttle bodies. Air intake might not be working correctly.

its not the bike on the atkins diet. it has carbs.

thanks guys. i pulled the rest of the coils and they all look good, i switched all the coils around, to see if maybe i could notice a different in the exhaust note pulse, which would point to another bad coil, with no luck.
i'm thinking either the fuel filter or a clogged jet like you guys said.
appreciate the response, i'll keep you posted.

You mentioned "new oil change" on your post so I was wondering if you serviced your air filter. The first time I oiled the filter I used to much oil and had a horrible bog.Recleaned filter and used just a small amount of oil to cover surface and the bog was no more.Just an idea

thanks guys, UPDATE:
used some STP carb cleaner with a tank of 94 Sunoco (which by the way, hurts with gas prices today) and the bog seems to be less.
however, at upper rpms, there is still a noticeable wave so to speak in the powerband....
feels like, if you were to magnify the tach, it would be going up and down and up and down the whole way up to redline..
kinda like a radiowave really fast... ok, hopefully that made sense.
new fuel filter on monday, that should fix her we'll hope.

regardless, its fun even being slow.

check your gas line...right after the filter...i have an 01 r6 and somehow my line got a little kinked and my bike wasnt getting enough fuel...really noticable at higher rmps. when you place your tank down look underneath and watch the line.

thanks mike i'lll take a look at that.
its STILL not running right.
a buddy of mine and myself are ripping it apart this weekend to figure it out.
i can't stand this damn nice weather here (PA) and not having a bike that can keep up.

A few ?'s for flatblack
1) do you have a jet kit?
2) slip on, full exhaust, or stock?
3) aftermarket air filter?
4) have you had you carbs apart?

jet kit, slip on, carbs were cleaned.

initially you would think, ok, jet kit = tune the bike
but then you'd have to ask yourself why it ran fine for months with the jet kit and slip on, and then overnight, decided to run like crap.
thus my position.

It's your stator, or you left the choke on, or your plugs are fouled. Do you have full exhaust? If so did you have it rejetted?

just a Lou Vince slip on.
was rejetted afterwards
checked the plugs, fine.
stator...didn't cover that one yet.
thanks for the option..i'll look into it.

Is your problem happening at WOT(wide open throttle) or partial throttle? Have you had your carbs synchn'd? The reason I ask is this: when you roll on the throttle the carbs go from a pilot jet (0-30% throttle) to the main jet (20%-WOT).[I think those are the %'s] What can happen is the carbs get out of synch and can created the "wave" type problem you're describing. I'm not sure if you noticed what size jets you're running when you cleaned them but from what I've expierenced, the leaner you run the more sensitive the carbs become. good luck, keep us posted.

well, paritally solved the problem
the WAVE affect was caused by two severly stuck links in my chain, so i slapped a new one on and sprockets while i was at it.
so the all RPM wave thing is dismissed.
however,
still lacking on power.
now that the ride is tolerable, you can hear audible popping from the exhaust on decell, pointing to a rich condition.
i'm vearing away from the Stator theory, based on how the rest of the bikes electrical systems work on startup and through-out the ride.
2 months running now and still no fix.
my refusal to pay shop fees is catching up with me.
keep cracking though guys, good suggestions thus far.

Just some FYI- I've got 150's on the outside carbs and 147.5's on the insides. I've got a full yosh system and a flo-commander.
