Im a newbie but has anyone replaced the rear tire with a 190/55 on a 03-05 R6? Does it throe off the speedo or gearing any? Is it even worth it to change size from the 180/55?

it has been asked before. if you go wider the handling of the bike suffers. look at some of the new R1 guys are doing, going from a 190 rear to a 180. for better handling. so i wouldnt recomend it.

This is what it boils down to. If you are a street rider using street tires on a street bike, use a 180/55. If you are a track day rider you will probably still be better off using a 180/55 in most cases. If you want to be a competitive racer, find a good suspension guy to work with and run one of a select few 190/55's.

I run 190/55 with no problem. with the 190 most riders dont use up all the tire(edges) and you lose a lil accel. If you have gearing(-1/+2) it makes up for it. And your bike drop in a lil slower.

I run a 190 on my bike and I like it, but it actually does noticeably change the way you corner. I have found that with my pirelli and michelin 190s vs the dunlop 180 that when you go to turn in the bike seems to "roll" all the way over to the edge versus the 180 just dropping onto the sides. Its hard to explain but it is a different feeling. completely your choice though.

I have found that to get the same turn in on a 190/55 as a 180/55 tire, you have to put a 2 mm shim under the rear shock. The gearing for a 190/55 tire is about the equivelent of going down 1 tooth on the rear sprocket. So to have the same gearing as a -1 +2 you will need to go -1 +3. I have just recently started rolling rubber over the edge of the 190/55 tire and can say that the grip is significantly better at those lean angles as compared to a 180/55. I still feel that 190/55 is a track only tool. the use of 190/55 on the street would be a waste of money, and rubber.

Did I read this wrong or do you mean going "up" one tooth in the rear to get to a -1 +3?

you read it wrong.:lmao its like going down 1 tooth(190) so if your running a -1/+2 set up you have to go up 1 in the rear to have a "-1/+2"

Tire pressure does play a roll in getting the rubber rolling over the edge. The lower the tire pressure the easier it is. That being said I usually run about 24 - 25 psi in the rear tire. Lower tire pressure allows a little more grip with a loss of stability. whereas higher tire pressure reduces grip and increases stability. The shim under the rear shock is what quickens the steering back up so it is about equivelent to a 180/55 profile.

I have a chance to get a new set of BT0-16's for cheap but only in size
190/50ZR17 & 120/70ZR17. It will cost me more to get 180/55

Will it fit, the 190/50 ?

How is it different to 190/55?

Thanks
