im probably going to get an 05 r6 its my first street bike. im not sure of my exact height, but ill guess its around 5'3 or something, and i weigh 115. i sat on the r6 and im tip toe with both feet. i dont really mind that but the problem im wondering about is on the road if the road isnt flat or if i was on a hill how would i touch the ground when i come to a stop? i dont want to lower the bike if i dont have to, so i was wondering how you shave a seat down, and exactly how much you can shave from the r6? and once the bike has been ridden and broken in will the suspension soften and be a little lower anyway?

i know there are other threads about lowering, but i didnt see any with some of these questions. any advice thanks :drink

U can take it to an Upholstry shop nd they can shave it for u, nd they can also tell u how much can be shaved off it.

an 05 R6 is an inch taller than a 99-02 R6...although the seat height is rated the same...I own both bikes...and the 05 R6 is a bit taller...for someone who's 5'3...i dont think you can even tippee toe the 05 R6...you need to lower it down...or shave some foam off your seat, good luck..

would you happen to know if the 03 r6 is the same height as the 05?

I actually sat on an 03, and im not necessarily tip toed but i do have at the very least half of my foot touching the ground on both sides. If i peg leg it at a stop than yeah i can get flat footed but if i put both feet on the ground, half will touch and i am 5'5" with my Timbs on. Would you suggest that i lower my bike in this situation. I mean im fairly comfortable without lowering the bike, but i don't know how much of a safety issue this might be if i dont lower it you know.

i am 5'2" and i wear boots about 1 inch high, and i have shaved the seat down 2 inches, and also shave the side where your thigh goes. that helps a lot. i weigh 105 lbs.

yes the 05 is about an inch higher then the rest. because oof the new 70 series tires and they raised the rear a bit.

i can put the balls of my feet down pre 05's, on the 05's with all that done i can only tippy toe. only thing i worry about is comiing to a fast stop. i need to work on that.

i'm thinking of dropping iit one inch iin the rear and half inch in front

Shaving the seat is a great way to not compromise setup on the bike... If you are not going to be draggin your knee through every turn for everyday riding putting a adjustable lowering link on it and dropping the front and back end a inch is a good setup... :)

or you can just hang your ass over one side.... seriously how often do you have 2 feet on the ground at the same time. Im not the tallest of fellas but at first going from a 250 to a 600 felt like going from a mini to a monster truck but its all good now. I just shift my ass over to one side and get the whole foot on the ground.

im sure this thread could help someone else still, but just so everyone knows ive gotten the bike and have about 1700 miles on it at stock height. i havnt had any problems with not touching enough. now i need to setup the suspension, im still using it stock. thanks for the info everyone.

i have and 05 and i'm 5'8". i've thought about lowering my bike an inch. i dont realy have a problem unless i'm stopped on a really unlevel road. the main things i'm concerned about are having a passenger and not being able to have both feet flat and maneuvering(not sure if i spelled that right or not) the bike around like backing up and turning around in driveways.

i'm wondering if just shaving the seat would be fine for me. also...does anyone know a ballpark figure of how much it would cost to lower the bike an inch? :usa

uhhh im 5 8 /5 9 i dont seem to have that problem? plus with a passenger your in spring compression and you can touch easier........ maybe i just have a soft rear shock...

to the thread starter -

why not put in an air ride bro if your 5-3 it might be sick and you might get to go on american chopper

you probably right about the exra weight. what year is your bike. my friend has an 03 and i know for a fact it sits lower than the 05's
