Get together in Texas

It would be awesome if everyone in Texas would get together this summer. Unfortunately, this summer, I won't be able to go to the convention, but it would be nice if us texans would get together for a texan r6 convention like in the hill country or so. I will be working in Austin this summer, but won't be able to make it to deals gap, so I was wondering if we could meet up somewhere to get to know each other. It would sound like fun, especially riding through the hill country. Let's see if we could get something set up.

Sounds good to me. I'm moving this to the South Central section so everyone can find it. We'll start taking location and timeframe ideas there.

I gotta go to my roommates wedding on May 23rd and will be gone that whole week, so maybe May 26-29 (memorial day weekend) or June 2-4. Anyone have any ideas on where to do this, I was thinking like Austin/Santone area or East Texas. Anyone know these areas well enough to decide if one's better than the other.

Well if you do it earlier like the weekend of may 13th or Late August like the weekend of the 19th or later I could make it. I will be riding highway 16 for spring break with some buddies near San Antonio so I can let you know how that is after I ride it. The reason my dates are the way they are is because I am working in Arizona for the summer.

May 10 is last day of classes, so really just anytime after then except for the wedding.

I think Austin would be good. the Rx7 and RX8 people have a state wide meet there and there are some really curvy nice roads.. last time i was there we saw a nice sportbike cruise going on. There is or was also time to party (we all stayed in the Omni hotel- got a group discount and it was like one or two streets over from 6th street) We could make it into a weekend if you guys wanted.. or if that is too big of an event we could just cruise for a while and all go back to our own cities!

I'd be up for this. Anyone else ever been down Devil's Backbone that runs through Winberley (a lil south of Austin). It'd make an awesome road to include on a little sportbike tour. Constant twisties and some sweepers but nothing a newER riding couldn't handle with a little reduced speed.

BTW, anytime except the weekend of June 3rd is cool with me... I'll be in my cousins wedding....I don't think he'd understand my reasoning for trying to back out for a ride through the mountains. :-)

Yo, I'm in San Marcos (between Austin and San Antonio). We have a pretty cool bike night here on Thursdays. If any of you folks are around, it's worth checking-out.

Sound fun, me and the wifey are going to the R.O.T. rally in Austin on the first weekend in June. We go every year,, it's a blast, plus there's tons of sportbikes not just harley riders......

yeah, well we can choose to get together the same weekend as the ROT. There are millions of bikes in town already. Could be fun. Unless someone has other ideas.

I will have to Vote to meet up at the ROT rally. Great fun had by all.

Well, unless anyone really can't make it, we can shoot for ROT weekend. Here (http://www.rotrally.com/) is the website for the rally. It says that you can preregister if you want to do that. Registration is $45 for the weekend and gets you into all the events planned. Or we can not do that, do our own thing, and if we do decide to go, we can register on-site. Also, if we're gonna try to do a group buy for lodging, we need to get it done before may 10th or so according to the website. BTW the ROT weekend is June 1-4. How many people are down for this, or is it just gonna be 2 of us?? Please let me know as soon as possible.

I was planning on goign to ROT but i have to wait to find out what will be going on at work. I would love to get together with some R6rs so il keep checking this post, but i would say I am in.

I'm up for it. I live in San Marcos, so it's easy for me. Mom lives on Lake Travis along with brother and are going to ROT as well. Although, I was originally going to decline due to thread leaders comments about the Longhorns, but decided against when I realized he was from an ignorant part of the world - Lubbock! Another prodigy of public education, oh how I weep for the future. LOL Here's the irony I'm thinking about buying a house in Lubbock to be closer to work. I'm a Consultant in the oil & gas business.

Graduate in December with bachelors in Civil Engineering. Just asking you if you gaduated or went there because I hate all those punks that are all about the 'horns, but have never stepped foot on campus nor do they have, or ever had, a chance at going there.

Congrats! No it wasn't my first choice. I was born and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona and was intent on going to Arizona State there in Tempe. Grandmother and mom had different ideas. Was accepted to Harvard although didn't qualify for financial aid. Mom and grandma are catholics and footin' the bill, so it was either Trinity in San Antonio or Notre Dame. I liked the weather and girls more in San Antonio. Transferred my third year. Convinced them that Trinity didn't have a good business school...Now I tell my ex-wife that I demand the girls go to the school of their choice, regardless of our opinions. But I've got plenty of time, they are only 7 and 6.

You're only a month away. I know you'll like it. You just have to get used to this horrible, muggy humidity. You'll sweat like a plantation mule out here, but you'll be able to ride everyday. And the girls wear less over here. The river from Austin all the way down and passed New Braunfels is going to blow your mind. Party central during the day...6th street or the Riverwalk at night

Yeah, I've spent the last two summers in Austin, so I know how it is. As far as going to Tech, I grew up 30 mins from here, so I've been a Red Raider all my life. My first choice in school was Notre Dame, but no way my parents were gonna be able to afford it. Plus, Indiana sucks (haha McCormick). This'll be my first summer in Austin with a bike. Can't wait.

Kick Ass! I really like Lubbock and that small town Plainview north of you. And the girls over there. I love being from somewhere else! They are VERY friendly. Some of them can make my motel room look like a crime scene when we get through. Damn I love those girls. Austin just gives you a bigger pool to play in AND YOUR from out of town, so that's an edge for you.

ugghh, havent decided yet, last two summers I lived in an apt. but the company I worked for gave me a housing allowance and the one i'm working for this year isn't. I need someone in the austin area who is willing to have me sleep in their extra room or living room for a summer.

the dragonslayers (a firefighter bike club of mostly crusers) are going. so i can make the trip up there with them. they asked if i wanted to stay with them at whatever hotel they are getting, but i think id rather not (eventhough im a firefighter i dont get along that great with them)

ok so the ppl coming from San An. and San Ma. is there some plan to meet up somewhere for the trip up? like san mar or something?

Hack: I have not heard a thing at this point. I guess we'll all just wave as we see each other coming and going down the road. Hopefully we'll get smart and make some decisions or at least start tossing some ideas around.

Hey, where are all the Dallas/FW ppl? i thought we had a bunch in that area? like yoda and TexasR6 ? or are they to preoccupied with the GAP? i thought there would be more ppl then this? maybe the word still isnt out? we might have to start PMing ppl.

Who knows, maybe they don't like us. I'm sure as it gets closer we'll start hearing or rather seeing more people wanting to participate and coordinate.

Hack: Yeah thru San Marcos if your coming up 35 from San Antonio. Nice to know we are neighbors during the summer. Every year I take my 2 little girls and ex-wife down to San Benito in the valley to see my ex's grandmother. The girls love Mexico and the beaches. San Marcos is pretty cool, not snobby like most college towns.

As a matter of fact I just spent a couple of days over there in Lubbock meeting with realtors, sucked really. I'm not a patient person and I hate shopping except for shit I want. Ha ha, yeah, as long as the roof doesn't leak and if the living room/den is set up in a way so that you can have a perfect surround sound then, it's all good. My bike is in the shop, I wrecked it, and is getting fixed. Actually, right now, they are still doing the estimate on it. If the insurance totals it, im gonna buy it back from them and switch the plastics and tank to make it a yellow bike. Don't know how long it's gonna take but I 'magine it's gonna take a while. Should'a let me know you were gonna be in town. And as far as the chopper goes, I would rather take the 6 and be different. If you go in a chopper (unless it really stands out) you will be one of the crowd, but I guarantee a guy riding by on a R6 will get everyone's attention (good or bad).

I bought the Raven for the obvious "red & black" paint scheme (school pride). But after I got it, I decided that I shouldof gotten the yellow. Looks great and you're more visible. The bike got messed up the other day when I was coming back home from school. An old lady pulled out in front of me and I layed her down. I know for sure I'm not ready for an R1.

Yeah, yeah red and black. The yellow is kick ass I must admit, even though I've got the blue. Well hopefully you bent the frame just a little bit, make sure your adjuster totals the bike, so you can get a brand new one, instead of trying to fix the old one. Plus you'll be able to buy back the first one. Two is better than one. Think your're going to make ROT?

I have my truck to drive around, but it's not the same. I start the summer job on May 29. Not suing the old lady, but her insurance is paying for hospital, and bike. I have 2500 miles on it. I bought it in January.
