: 06/R6 Stock Exhaust Mod...Opinions?
R6init 04-21-2006, 01:58 PM I wanted to post up a few pics of what I did with my stock exhaust last night. I basically shortened it by several inches. I undid the rear dome cover on the exhaust, then cut the exhaust in half, but no through the center tube, then sanded the center tube to the same angle as before, then basically reattached the end dome piece, and re pop-riveted it back.
It was a little more complicated than that, but that is the jist of it. I have kept it unpainted for now, but think I will probably paint it black, or have it powdercoated. The sound is very similar to stock, but just a bit deeper. Sounds great! I thought it would be a cool mod to do because it keeps the look of the stock pipe, which I think has a great looking end piece, but shortens it to show off the swingarm. Now that I know how to do it, and all the little tricks I had to learn along the way, I could do more pretty easily. If anyone is interested, just send me a pm, and we can work something out.
Your comments are welcome. Also, do you think it would look better painted. I think it should. You may have to compare the pice side by side to another pic of a stock can to really see the difference.

R6init 04-21-2006, 02:17 PM I had to shrink the shit out of this pic for it to load. If there is a way to load larger images on this forum, can someone show me how?
smedzz 04-21-2006, 02:26 PM looks good.
mrbinkels 04-21-2006, 04:43 PM That's actually pretty sick. Good job thinking outside the box.

Absolutely kick ass! Great ingenuity!
Cheapmods 04-22-2006, 09:03 AM You know.... the other day when i was staring in awe at my new love (the 6 of course) I was thinking about that exact thing. Looks stunning very clean execution!!
major props
R1cky 04-22-2006, 02:55 PM looks clean... can u replace the baffles inside? or ever think about wraping a c/f over titanium or replace the titanium w/ c/f?
The Aura 04-22-2006, 04:33 PM WOW! great mod.
R6init 04-22-2006, 05:50 PM Thanks for the comments. I was planning on painting it black, but some CF worked in would be nice too. Also, is there a benefit to losing the EXUP valve? If so, do you need a PC/re-map? I

Yoshimura rep on another form says the EXUP on the '06 R6 isn't really doing anything since it is on the other side of the big muffler thingie under the bike - which makes sense.
He says it's only helping to reduce the sound, so no benefit or loss if you lose it. I was more worried about a loss.
Cheapmods 04-22-2006, 07:36 PM I thought the EXUP was like VTEC in hondas, but in reverse......sorta.
Basically increasing backpressuer in lower rpms for better response & opening in the higher rev range with no restriction.
right??
COSMO ROCKIT 04-22-2006, 07:53 PM you did a damn nice job man. def will have to consider this for mine.

That's what I thought too and one reason I wasn't seiously looking a slipons because I didn't want to lose the EXUP, but he said that due to R6v exhaust system, big can underneath, then EXUP, then small silencer, the EXUP has no effect on backpressurer and only limits the sound and it is more for getting by sound regs. If the EXUP was directly between the header pipes and the silencer/muffler, then it would be valid, but how can the EXUP change the backpressure after the muffler? What he said makes sense to me, but I'm no expert.
R6init 04-23-2006, 04:32 PM I would like to get a definate answer on this, from Yamaha or something cause if the EXUP isnt doing anything, there is a lot of exhaust drag and some weight that can be saved right there!
R6init 04-23-2006, 04:33 PM Thanks Cosmo...Let me know if you need any help if you decide to do it.
thebronze 04-23-2006, 06:47 PM That is a sick looking pipe.

R6init, curious as to what you used to cut the pipe? :secret
R6init 04-24-2006, 06:37 PM I used a 4" angle grinder with a metal cutting blade. Since the pipe is titanium, I went through a few blades. I also used a dremel tool for some to the finer work, like on the inner pipe angle cut finishing.
BTW I rode this weekend, and loved the sound! Not much louder than stock, but definately sounded sick! Got a few compliments from the other guys I was riding with.

Thanks! I'm definitely considering it. I'll definitely give you credit when I post my pics. I still have a couple more mods to do first.
jgny2000 04-24-2006, 07:32 PM looks sick man nice job.
Roderick972 05-03-2006, 09:11 PM What are you charging for this mod? What's the turn around time?
