well iam about to do an oil change and well i heard that when you clean your airfilter use soap and water and let it air dry. but someone told me when installing the filter, slightly coat the outside of the airfilter for better filtration..is that true

yes, this has been so with kawasaki bikes as well. I have read it from kawasaki's manual. just a very very light coating of oil helps trap dust and dirt better.

yes you have to coat it with some sort of oil. use the spray on k&n stuff.

Go buy the K&N recharge kit, its like 13 bucks. Open it in the store and make sure you get the oil bottle with a spray nozzle, not the drip top. Then you just follow the instructions in the box. It's easy to over-oil it. Not a big deal it seeps out, but it leaves a nice oil slick down the left side of your bike, so take it easy on the oil, only needs a light coating.

Just make sure your filter is the foam type and not the cotton/paper type. I heard some people have had better luck running the filter dry, but it you want to trap more dirt, use the uni filter stuff.

the 05 bike will likely have a weird looking fuzzy filter. It kida looks like a buzz cut on some alien marine. it is a reusable element and flows rather well but still needs to be cleaned and RECHARGED with oil in regular intervals.
