Hey everyone,

I have been posted on a short term work transfer to Europe, and I managed to fit in the Jerez and Le Mans races - both were awesome fun. I've finally sifted through the 1000+ pictures I took at Le Mans, picked out the best pictures and sharpened them up, so I thought I'd share them with you all.

I've posted up a selection of my favourite pictures in this thread, but if you want to see the full suite of pictures check out the full album at:

Enjoy! Sorry for the large post, but let me know what you guys think :jacked

Some very nice camera work there, what gear were you using?

Hopper's lean angle and body position is mental!

Nice shot of Rossi going up the inside of Dani too :toocool:

Thanks mate, I'm using a Canon EOS 350D with the sigma 70-300 DG lens. Definitely far from the flashy end of the spectrum when it comes to cameras and lenses, and you can see that in some of the pics where I've had to over-compensate or deliberately sharpen the images. Still learning how to take decent sport pics, and hopefully I'll have another crack at the Phillip Island motogp this October (thinking of renting one of those expensive lenses the pros use to see what difference it makes!)

You're right about Hopper, his lean angle is insane - great to watch! I went gung-ho with the camera whenever he passed - I'm bound to get a shot of him elbow-down eventually! :nocontrol

Oh and by the way - I'll be back in Melbourne by mid June, I'll try to organise a ride out and group photoshoot if everyone is keen

:cheers

Canon kick a$$, I love their DSLR's. Have been using an EOS 20D for a few years now and on our recent trip to Japan I was lucky enough to grab a new EOS 40D with 17-85mm & 70-300mm IS Zoom lenses for about half of what they are worth in Australia. :nocontrol

You can see some shots I took with it at WorldSBK (http://picasaweb.google.com.au/mavric23/WorldSBK2008) at Philip Island earlier in the year. Note: these shots have not been edited in any way, just as they came off the camera but resized for the web.

:werd Sounds good, we can hook something up a bit closer to your return.

Awesome shots mate - looks like you get better results with the canon 70-300mm IS lens. You've probably set your camera up better than I have too - I'm still learning the basics, so I'll have to get some pointers off you! :jacked

I'm still deciding on what lens I'll get next (the Tamron 18-250 seems to be a good all-rounder), but I was thinking of renting the 300 F2.8 IS L lens for the weekend of the PI motogp to see how much difference the image stabilisation and L series quality make...

I was actually at the WSBK qualifiers too last March. My flight out to Europe was at 10pm on the Saturday but I managed to ride in, catch the qualifying, ride back, finish the rest of my packing and fly out! Desparate times, desparate measures :nocontrol

I find that the lens makes a big difference, especially on sports shots. The better lenses have less barrel distortion and will yield a sharper image.

Have a read of this (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0805/08051602canon70200review.asp).... I know they are only the 200mm versions but it will give you some idea of how they all stack up against each other (Canon v Tamron V Sigma etc). If you want to get more into Digital photography you will be hard pressed to find a better site than DPreview (http://www.dpreview.com/) for reviews and news etc.

I will be at motoGP as well so your welcome to use my lens for a bit to see how it compares. Image stabilisation kicks a$$
