: 2003 The Year my Cubs will Finally Come Through
The billy goat's curse will finally be broken! My Cubs are finally going to win a World Series title! All they have to do is get past the Braves and it will be smooth sailing from there. No one is going to stop the Wood/Prior/Clement train. A lot of you won't care about this post but GOD DAMNIT the Cubs don't win often enough for me to ignore this.
jasamb 09-29-2003, 10:48 AM GO CUBS!!!!
:jump
Ahhh the only other guy from Chicago area. Well here's to us :cheers
and to the other teams fans :piss you
penfold 09-29-2003, 02:31 PM HA! It's nice to see you guys happy but don't get comfortable with it! How many division titles have the braves won in the past 10 years? How many have the cubs? Hate to :piss on your parade but the cubbies look either like :jester or like :scared when they play! Best of luck to you guys. But when you guys want to come to New York to watch the Yankees parade down Broadway, call me, you can stay here! :naughty :laugh :naughty :laugh :naughty :laugh :naughty :laugh
Actually if the Cubs get to the series I hope they play the yanks since they took two out of three from them this year. :poke Braves are tall order for the first round, but I gotta believe. Cubs might not get another division title for 14 years again. And as long as Wood or Prior is pitching they look more like a :pimp than anything else.
penfold 09-29-2003, 02:43 PM 2 of 3 was luck. caught the Yanks in a lull, nothing more. But I will give you that Woods and Prior are tremendous pitchers. Not quite as deep as Mussina/Petite/Clemens/Wells with Rivera closing but it might get you into the second round.....
Clement/Zambrano aren't shabby either. There not in Wood or Prior league but not many guys are. Dusty Baker is always his best in the playoffs also. Well see what happens IF the Cubs and Yankees manage to get to the series perhaps a friendly wager is in order?
*Please God don't let the Cubs get swept in the first round and embarass me now*
penfold 09-29-2003, 03:09 PM Which ever team gets knocked out first, the other has to change thier avatar to that teams logo. So my avatar would have to be like yours and yours would have to be the big daddy NY baby!
If both make it to the Series, then we can talk FRIENDLY WAGER ( :drink ).... Perhaps a keg of their choice to the victor via the loser?
Not too shabby. how long should we keep the avatar changed. Until the other team gets eliminated.
penfold 09-30-2003, 12:10 PM ya, that sounds good.... Can't wait to see you posting with the NY under your name! Just got to find a suitable logo pic!
penfold 09-30-2003, 12:15 PM it's a bit big.....maybe as your sig instead?
http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/80/031_5172.jpg
signature it is then.
yanks are about to drop game one now though. 3-0 bottom of the 7th.
penfold 09-30-2003, 02:53 PM ya, they totally underestimated the twins. they played like they would just walk over them. bunch of idiots........
Well you better hope they get their ass in gear. Cubs looked tough last night, Except for leaving too many guys stranded on base. Wood had to pitch and knock in the runs all by himself, too bad we couldn't pitch him and Prior every night.
penfold 10-01-2003, 06:02 PM Tell you what, I am really shakin in my boots. Cubs look good.....
penfold 10-06-2003, 12:09 AM Cubs are looking pretty good. Then again, so are the Yanks! This could turn into a real horse race!
Yep I guess we are both moving on to round 2 now. And with the giants out of the way I am really thinking we are going to make it past the fish and get to the Series. You should have seen the corner of Clark & Addison last night(Wrigley Field in case you don't know) There were people as far as you could see and crazy partying everywhere in Wrigleyville. Even got to see a few :boob If the Cubs make it to the Series I am predicting parties I will have to tell my Grandkids about. If they manage to win the series the cops are goping to have to shut the North side of the city down.
jasamb 10-06-2003, 09:05 AM Yea Cubs
You know JL the Cubs fans are relatively tame. (as Mancow said this morning) If that were the Sox or the Bears, the city would be on fire right now
Yea I know man but the Bears haven't done anything since 85 and the Sox are on the South side so no one would even notice anyways
jasamb 10-06-2003, 09:21 AM Agreed and actually now that I think about it, I'm sure some parts of the South side ARE on fire right now.
Jus so my man Penfold doesn't forget about the bet after last night :poke
:cheers
xr6ross 10-09-2003, 03:57 PM im not a real fan of baseball but i would like to see the cubs and redsocks in the world series.........with the sox winning of course!!!
penfold 10-13-2003, 09:46 AM I'm keep an eye on things now that I'm back in civilization. No TV for a week! Did see the fish beat the cubbies last night at the airport in Miami though. That is what I would call dominating pitching on the Fish's part. As for theYanks-Sox series, Boston just blew it with all their whiny antics the other night. Not saying what Zim did was appropriate, rather it was really stupid. But the fact that it happened and Pedro did put his hands on him and helped to the ground (he really didn't do much to Zim but he did SOMETHING nonetheless) will have the Yanks fired up. Zim is hte heart of the bench. Just watch the game tonight........
It sure is nice to be back!
No TV and no Beer make Homer something something.......
I wasn't going to say anything....but since you brought it up. Zim is an ass, he was when he coached the cubs and he is now. I know you are a yankees fan but from an outsiders point of view it is the yankees who look like assholes not the bosox. The hit batsmen fight I can understand that stuff happens in baseball, always has always will. But what the Yankees did to that guy in the bullpen was pathetic. They beat up a guy for cheering on his team. Not only that Karim Garcia jumped the fence to help beat him up. Because "I will help my teammates anytime someone attacks them" Come on seriously, I doubt an entire bullpen of major leagus pitchers needed his help beating up one guy. Come to think of it it's pretty hard to "attack" someone when you are getting the shit beat out of you by three guys but i digress. I went from having really no opinion of the Yankees to really hoping they lose. I don't hold it against you though :moon
penfold 10-13-2003, 10:10 AM See, I heard the bullpen fight was between one of the grounds crew and the Boston bullpen. That's the story I got in Belize while we where there. Only got home at 1am last night so haven't had a chance to get caught up on much. But if that is the story with regards to the bullpen, then ya, that is pretty lame. I wish I had seen the game though since much of what I know has probably been taken way out of context (I read a quick article in the NY Post, which is a rag anyways).
But hey man, you are entitled to your opinion but now seeing you all fired up will make watching you post with the Yanks Emblem all that more fun! :jump :tongue :moon :tongue :moon :jump
And I will give it to the cubs, they are playing great ball but they need to finish it off............
you heard right as far as him working for Boston. I just don't see how that means he can't cheer for the Red Sox if he has to be in the bullpen. Oh well. I would like to get a paper from New York and a paper from Boston and read them both. Probably sound like two totally different games.
Pedro Martinez and Don Zimmer starring in: "Old Man Sit Down"
http://www.geocities.com/pedrodropszim/index.htm
penfold 10-13-2003, 12:23 PM Who knows, he probably said something to one of the players, but even then, they're supposed to be professionals and realize that people in attendance will say just about anything. I can guarantee that the story sounds different from both sides. I'm about to check out your link. Been on the phone with people calling me about our honeymoon.....
penfold 10-13-2003, 12:27 PM Ya, it's a bit rich for people to say that Zim deserved it. He twice Pedro's age. All Pedro had to do was step aside. Certainly he has quicker reflexes and movement than Zim does. But Pedro has always been a standup guy on the field, especially throwing 96mph fastballs at or behind peoples heads......
yeah how was Belize? What is there even? Never heard much about it other than it is a nice place to go on vacation.
penfold 10-13-2003, 12:37 PM Belize, atleast where we stayed (Ambergris Caye), http://www.matachica.com/ was sweet ass. 85 degree water, crystal clear, worlds second largest barrier reef about 200 yards out from shore...... Hop in a kayak and paddle out and spend your day snorkeling........ sit at the bar and be hammered by 2 in the afternoon.... go cave tubing in the rain forest..... check out some Mayan ruins..... or simply do nothing at all except lay on the beach........ There's alot of british and american ex-pats that moved down there and opened resorts and/or restaurants and the like so you aren't completely surrounded by unfamiliar people. I'd highly recommend it. Had a fantastic time.
Now its time to watch some baseball and football! :jump :jump :jump :jump :jump
penfold 10-14-2003, 08:54 PM JL man, it's turning into a nail biter for both of us......
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=231014116
Don't know if you saw that game or not but that idiot fan who took the ball away from Alou is going to have to quit his job and move out of this city. reding the sun-times this morning and he was getting garbage and beer thrown on him and people were coming down from twenty rows up just to yell at him. Some guy that was sitting five rows back said "It's a good thing they escorted him out of here because someone was going to kill him."
jasamb 10-15-2003, 08:03 AM JL was that you in the sweatshirt???
jasamb 10-15-2003, 08:12 AM For all those who say "It wasn't his fault, the Cubs just suck, etc."
If Alou does catch that ball, 2 outs one man on base Cubs have the momentum froma spectacular play, score is still 3-0, Prior is still going strong...
Would the outcome of the game have been different?
maybe
I'm glad FOX put the camera on that guy so much so that all the other whack-job, drunk-ass Cubs fans could get a good look at him.
:drink
Unfortunetly I was forces to watch from the friendly confines of my living room. I wish I was the guy in the sweatshirt though, then I could have dumped my beer on that headphone wearing tool. :cuss
penfold 10-15-2003, 09:35 AM Saw the highlights this morning of the Cubbies game. And had that guy not interferred with Alou, Cubs definitely win, especially with one of their aces throwin a strong game on the mound. What sucks is that it was a cubs fan who grabbed the ball. You'd think they'd stay out of the way to let them catch the ball but that kind of crap happens at every ballpark either for or against your team becuase everyone wants to say that they caught a MLB baseball. They could just go buy one......
http://www.chicagoriders.com/forum/uploads/post-1-1066238452.jpg
jasamb 10-15-2003, 10:43 AM If the Cubs lose tonight, I imagine this guy will be in serious danger
Over on Chicagoriders there is a guy that works in the same office he does and he put his phone number up on the net encouraging people to call this guy.
jasamb 10-15-2003, 11:16 AM Dude, post it!
here is the post as it appears on the other site.
This is to priceless and NO JOKE......but the guy who's the most famous Chicagoan at the moment
works here at Hewitt. His name is Steve Bartman aka "The Bart Man"......it's all over Hewitt today.
I think they've taken his phone off the hook already here, but you can try calling to harass the
biggest ass in the world. His number is ***-***-****. There are about six people who know him
really well in my department. I'm going to try to see if I can have lunch with him......
penfold 10-15-2003, 12:30 PM OMFG! That is to damn funny! That poster kills me as well! You guys are nutz up there! I can't wait to sit my fat ass down on the couch, drink and watch some ball all ****ing day long!
Guys, it would be a pleasure to beat you in the World Series. Can't wait to see you there!

tick32 10-15-2003, 12:59 PM You think "The Bart Man" will be at the game tonight?
penfold 10-15-2003, 03:43 PM I doubt the "Bart Man" is anywhere to be seen. I watched the pre-game show for the Yanks game and they said he didn't go to work today because of all the attention and everything so after sitting around thinking about it, I couldn't in good conscience, leave his phone number in JL's post. So don't get pissed I took it out. The man went to catch a foul ball and now he's getting shit on for it. The Cubs should have sucked it up and finished out the inning like the Division Champs they are....
penfold 10-15-2003, 06:06 PM Holy shit! Kerry Wood hits a 2 run homer! He ****in spanked it! I hope you guys are somewhere watching this gettin piss drunk (either out on waveland or some sweet bar!)!
Come on ya Cubbies!
penfold 10-15-2003, 06:24 PM Alou with a 2 run shot into the Zoo on Waveland! 5-3 Cubs! :jump :jump :jump
penfold 10-15-2003, 09:08 PM Well boys, seems things took a turn for the worse. I was really with ya on this. The Cubs were the sentimental faves (they also had a hell of a team) but alas, wasn't to be. JL, if the Yanks lose tomorrow, then we straight up and no one owes anything.......
Damn!! That's all I can say really. No excuses last night, Wood was off his game a little and they paid for it. Gotta give him props on the blast he hit off Redman though. This city wanted this so bad people were crying at the bar last night. Only one thing left to say as a Cubs fan I guess "Wait till next year!!"
What time is the game tonight Penfold? Man I don't wanna have to have that damn yankee pennant under my name for a week. But a bet is a bet.
jasamb 10-16-2003, 09:34 AM next year??????
penfold 10-16-2003, 01:26 PM Guys, like I said, it was a hell of a series. Both teams played until the very end and did all they could. Hopefully the cubs keep most of their players and don't get rid of their core and then go out and make a few key pick ups in the off season. If that happens, they are in hella good shape for next year.
As for tonights game, it's at 8pm EST. The Rocket, in his very last MLB game, going against the team he hates the most who have their ace on the mound in the opposing and inhospitable ballpark known as Yankee stadium. Should be a ****in doozy! Been drinking all day long getting ready for it. Lost my voice last night screamin at the tv. Should have left Petite in instead of pulling them for their crap ass relievers....
Relief pitching is the cubs problem too. Once Wood started going bad I knew it was over once the bullpen took over. I'll just be interested what happens when Padderson comes back. Do they want a young guy who will be great(Padderson) or a vet who is great now but is reaching the end of his career(Lofton). Really no room for him anywhere else in the outfield Sosa and Alou aren't going anywhere.
penfold 10-16-2003, 09:28 PM All I have to say is.......
**** You Boston
and
**** YOU PEDRO YOU BITCH! WE OWN YOU'RE SORRY ASS! ZIM'S GONNA **** YOU'RE WIFE TONIGHT! PAYBACKS A BITCH!
JL, sorry about this bro... Sometimes it just works out like that... I suspect you won't be postin for a while.......
MEH.....If you lose you lose. Now I will have to stay off for a week or so and hope my posts all float to the bottom. It's a shame this is coming to an end thopugh. I think we might have had the longest thread on the site going. Oh well I still can't believe they didn't win. Then I remember it's the cubs. :cuss
And I had to throw this in just cause it is new and cool
:worship
radandy 10-17-2003, 08:36 AM Yanks played a hella game last nite; from the 8th on, the Sox took it in the seat...
Time for a fish fry... :hammer
penfold 10-17-2003, 10:55 AM JL man, like I said, you guys will be a serious contender next year as long as they keep the core around and make a couple of good pickups. And you can't blame the Cubs for being the Cubs. Look at the game last night, Matsui hits a shot down the right field line, and a fan knocks it down as it's headed for the corner....ground rule double and we don't score any runs. Williams would have been in easily and Matsui on third. Might it have caused Little to yank Pedro? Never know but my point is, shit happens. Would Alou have caught it? Most likely. Should the cubs have won regardless with their lead and ace on the mound? For sure. But they got rattled. Yanks didn't get rattled and that's why they are where they are. They're back to the Cardiac Kids that they were in the mid-late 90's...........
And I think this is the longest thread going!
Nice sig by the way!
penfold 10-17-2003, 10:57 AM Oh ya......... Sushi anyone! You got it right radandy, time for a mutha f'n fish fry!
penfold 10-21-2003, 02:52 AM Hey JL, this one's for you Bro!

alas, it is only man city you beat not man utd! My teams are Inter Milan and Real Madrid. Well, Madrid was until the traded for Beckham. I'm so sick of that manky cunt you have no idea! Granted he's deadly from a set piece as he's proven in euro and world cup qualifying and Ericcson has done a right job of picking him for the side but enough of him and Mrs. Becks for **** sake!
Congrats on your promotion to the premiership! :cheers
BRAVO 10-22-2003, 03:26 PM cheers, hopefully i'll b popping another bottle at the end of the season
Well Penfold I guess the Yankees can "Wait till next year" now too. They have enough titles anyways. Oh and just as a parting shot It took the Marlins 7 games to put away the Cubs.
:poke
penfold 10-27-2003, 06:49 AM Bitterness will get you nowhere but nice parting shot nonetheless! Ya, even Steinbrenner apologized to all of NY for their poor play in the Series. I missed the game on saturday as I was stuck at a shit as wedding in up state NY. I knew it was a bad sign when a bunch of people from Boston who where at the wedding starting cheering out of no where. I guess we'll both have to wait until next year.....
Next year we up the bet as well.....
