penfold 11-12-2003, 09:45 PM So, I ordered a Blue Flame 3D Silver Carbon Dual Outlet Race Can
http://www.r6-forum.com/albums/album01/afp.sized.jpg
the other day and just finished installing it earlier tonight. The reason I chose the particular manufacturer is I had read some good reviews about them and also Pete (Wolf) recommended them as well and if you are aknowledging your competition, then they must be doing something right.
Initial Impression
When I opened the box yesterday, it felt like X-Mas! The can was perfect! The quality of craftmanship was top notch. Everything was nicely polished and fit perfectly. You cannot get the full effect of the 3D effect of the can unless you see it in person. The Silver colored carbon is covered with clear coating of some sort which adds tremendoud depth to it. All the neccessary parts were included, which doesn't always happen with things. There was the mount for the can and relocation brackets for the foot pegs and turn indicators (this one mounts to the back of the stock mud guard, only the parts I used are pictured).
http://www.r6-forum.com/albums/album01/afq.sized.jpg
Since I was removing the pegs and have an integrated tail, those pieces were left alone. This thing was a thing of purest beauty. I couldn't get it on my bike fat enough.
Installation
It's pretty straight forward. First, loosen the pipe clamp on the existing slip-on where it meets the collector pipes. The remove the bolt that holds the can to the mounting bracket and the pull the stock piece off. Next, unbolt the liscese plate holder and remove the undertail (just leave it dangling on the wires) and the tail plastics. If you so desire, you can install the foot peg relocation brackets put not the foot pegs at this time. Otherwise, remove both foot pegs and set them off to the side.

left peg removed

Now it's time to re-install the plastics. Once they are re-installed, the tricky part starts. You need to mount the bracket inbetween the liscense plate holder and the undertail and it takes some work to get the bolt holes lined up. Once you get those started, get them tight but leave a little bit of wiggle room in them yet.

I then attached the mid-pipe to the collector pipe and left the pipe clamp untightened and then slid on the can. Once this is done. then you can adjust the mid-pipe for length and rotation in relation to the mouting bracket to get the can to it. Once everything is in alignment, tighten everything down and that's it. Fire it up!

The Sound
The sound is frightening. It's absolutely roars. The carbon can seems to absorb all the metalic ringy-ness to it and leaves it with a deep rumble that is almost V Twin like, only better. It is loud though. It is marked on the end cap "Not for road use" which stands to reason since it is a race can. My wife heard it inside the house while watching tv and I was in the garage 40 feet away with the doors closed (was hoping for a free buzz but I didn't run it near long enough!). I do have a video clip taken with my digital camera (not camcorder) and I will insert the link whenever it gets posted.
Mikeeh76 11-12-2003, 10:24 PM YEA! Right on Mike! Very very nice piece!! Looks sexy on your R6!
And I think you sold me on picking the black Carbon Blue Flame myself when you mentioned the sound is V-twin like and top notch quality for the low price!!! And you are one lucky dude to get the last silver 3D carbon piece from Bue Flame! :pimp
Post some sound bytes or if not email them to me! :hammer
:ot
BTW, i hope that thing in the garbage is not what i think it is????? :hump
Mike
penfold 11-13-2003, 06:24 AM Post some sound bytes or if not email them to me! :hammer
I would but the video file is 8 megs large so most mailboxes will reject it. But again, I'm really, REALLY impressed by the quality of the can for the price. Like I said to you before, I got 2x the quality at half the price as compared to the underseats. Left me with alot of money to do other mods. Would have loved to get the underseats but this is by far the better decision. And as you noted, I got the LAST 3D Silver Carbon Blue Flame can!
:ot
BTW, i hope that thing in the garbage is not what i think it is????? :hump
Why yes it is! It's a remnant from my bachelor party! If you look closely at the last picture as well, in between my can and the white bucket, you can vaguely make out a chain on the floor..... the other end is attached to the bowling ball I had attached to my ankle for the weekend. The ball gets passed around amongst our group of friends. I'm the 3rd to have it.
YaYoGakk 11-13-2003, 07:16 AM Man! I'm dyin'! That thing looks sweet!!! Who did you buy it through?
Congrats!
Alden
ps... GET THE VIDEO POSTED!!! :jump :jump
penfold 11-13-2003, 07:45 AM Bought it thru Hammy the Can Man, www.hammythecanman.com . Brian is the guy you deal with and he's a good guy. Goes out of his way to help you and his prices are good. But BF no longer makes the silver carbon can. I think they are going to stop making carbon cans all together but not sure. I emailed the vid to DJ but it was to big so I need to find another way to get it to him.
jasamb 11-13-2003, 10:12 AM Looks good pen. Damn good!
:boob
Would you recommend Hammythecanman?
I just checked out his site and he seems to carry the pipe I want. Sent him an e-mail for pricing.
How long did it take to get your pipe?
penfold 11-13-2003, 11:37 AM ya, I would recommend him. He very nice and very responsive and honest with his opinion. It took about a 5-7 days as it had to come from our sister nation, Engerland.
I've spoken to DJ and the video section is not gonna be operable for another few weeks due to the site host being a dick. so once he moves it to a new site, in around 2-3 weeks, it'll be up and operational. If anyone uses messenger, my email is penfold_222@msn.com. Hit me up and I can transfer the video to you.
RedlineR6 11-13-2003, 11:51 AM Guys, he's talking about his new pipe. Hammy the can man doesnt sell blow up dolls :hammer At least i don't think so.

Mikeeh76 11-13-2003, 01:12 PM Pen, that pipe is really PIMP :pimp

I just wanted to make sure with Pen what it is..well could've been a mannequin.
But anyways, it seems the BF is a good choice! and I ordered mine today from Brian http://www.hammythecanman.com. As Pen said, and from my experience, he is a great guy and very honest. And very patient too. Check him out for your new set of exhaust!
Mike
jasamb 11-13-2003, 06:21 PM Yes, he is very quick and VERY responsive. He seems like a really good guy, I am a but few days away from convincing the wife to let me spend that much money on my bike.
When I order, I will order from him.

Alden, it's that good huh :?: Where have you seen the video :?:
I can't wait to get mine!! How does it sound compared to the other exhaust you had experience with?
YaYoGakk 11-15-2003, 12:16 PM He sent the video to me last night. And yes, it's that good. LOL I can only imagine what it sounds like in person. Now i'm not sure it the way the sound is resonating in the garage is playing a part in how it's sounding but in the video is soundin' pretty horny.
Alden
penfold 11-15-2003, 02:14 PM I borrowed a video camera and will tape some passes with it so you can hear it outside and under a load......... I will have to transfer it to anyone using aol or messenger as it'll be to big to email unless you have an account with over 10mb of storage.....
YaYoGakk 11-16-2003, 08:20 AM I was just thinking... When you take the video of ya driving down the road you should strap the blow-up doll to your back! That would own!
Mikeeh76 11-16-2003, 01:27 PM :lmao :lmao :lmao :lmao :lmao :lmao :lmao :lmao

She comes in handy for when you need that "extra person" in your cage or on your bike to be in the "High Occupancy Lanes" on the highway....
Of course there was many a day when "High Occupant Lane" was what applied........
I might just try that Alden...........
i ordered my 3D carbon fiber exhaust last month and just got conformation from blue flame that it was shipped to the guy i bought it from last week. i understand that they are not making them any more but i think you fell for the "i got the last 2 exhausts ever made" scheme. I was told the same thing by the place that i ordered from. It is a sweet can worth the wait though
Mikeeh76 12-15-2003, 12:46 PM My BF regular Carbon Highmount just came in!!! I know Pen after more than a month of wait, Hammy finally shipped it! The hold up was mostly from Blue Flame itself in Great Britain but Hammy (Brian) shipped it fast!!
Being i am from the West coast of the country! Thanks Brian!
Can't wait to get home and hopefully install it tonight for a ride to work tomorrow! :boob

I might have possibly fallen for it but I got mine in 5 days straight from Blue Flame. They could also be making a few more due to the lingering demand for them and have yet to shut down production. Either way, i got a sweet ass pipe. Mike, you'll see soon enough for yourself! Post pics when you get it on! :jump :jump

Have you received yours yet Matt? FYI, Pen got his since Hammy had the silver 3D carbon available since the person who ordered it got impatient.
And Hammy gives a kick ass deal! I got mine lower than all the sites that sells BF that i have found so far. And it covers shipping charges in 4 days!
Only drawback if you order it though is the wait from Great Britain but otherwise Hammy is the place to order it or any other stuff you may need.
I was also suprised when i was ordering my exhaust and Hammy checked that they still would make the black 3d carbon! :boob

Even though that it might have been a ploy to order them, i think all benefits from this since they still would manufacturer (MADE-TO-ORDER).
I am assuming that they make one as soon as one places an order. In my opinion, they should keep making them both (3D silver & black)
Pen, i know i can't wait to leave my work, i know for sure that i would put that can on as soon as i get a chance tonight for sure! :boob
and yeah i will post pics of the before and after. Have you done anything to your 6 lately? So far on mine after the VFX, i switched the rear hugger to carbon (off Ebay of course for a deal) usually the Yamaha dealership sells them for $220+
Im probably 90 percent sure that the exhaust that he got was the one that i ordered, waited 6-7 weeks with no real answer why i do not have it and decided to cancel and look else where. i went somewhere else, payed 20 bucks more but knew when i was getting the pipe. my exhaust was shipped from blue flame last week and i should be getting it here either tomorrow or the day after. Things actually worked out well for me because it took a week or two longer than the guy said it would and he threw me a t shirt and a killer deal on some galfer stainless steal brake lines. it got to the point where waiting any extra week didnt matter anymore due to the weather here in CT. if my original order came in when it was supposted to it there would have been pleanty of riding time left but shit happens. Ill take some pics of it when its on
Mikeeh76 12-15-2003, 08:21 PM :boob Yeah baby! I finally installed my new BF carbon high mount!! Took me almost an hour for the whole process. And also Pens step by step instructions helped. And man it sounds good! Deep throaty sound. But one thing i noticed is that it putters on idle, i am thinking i might need to rejet it?
I still need to test ride, so that have to wait for now. I took some pics and short movie clip (500k average) so i can email it to those who wants to hear the BF and hopefully will help to decide to go with the BF.

Nah, not much to it. Still waiting for my mirror covers to come from McCoy. Ordered them last wednesday and paid for 2nd day delivery and still not here and no repsonse from McCoy which is weird since I ordered my CustomLED tailight from them and it came 2 days later, no probelms.
And also Pens step by step instructions helped.
Glad they helped out a little bit. Does sound like you might need to rejet. Might try adjusting them first before rejetting to so if that helps but you might as well rejet to take advantage of the better outflow of gasses.
it got to the point where waiting any extra week didnt matter anymore due to the weather here in CT.
Matt, where in CT are you? I'm in the ghetto, better known as Bridgeport.
im up near the University of Connecticut, Storrs.
