Hi,
I am new to this group. I am looking to buy a used R6

Its got 14000 Miles on it and I took it to a dealer to get it checked.

The dealer suggested that The bike might need a Valve adjustment

It would be great if some one could put some light on this topic.

I want to know if it needs to be done at 14000 Miles because its

costing around 300$

Thanks in advance

According to the maunal (check link below) the valves only need adjusting at 26600 miles. Yours should be OK at this stage.

Is there any excessive "rattling" coming from the motor?

Thanks for the reply. I will look up the site.

The Bike I am looking at is a 1999 R6 with few scratches on the side
because of a fall. Do you have any idea about the approximate price of the bike.

The Bike needs new Chain and Sprocket and New tires.

Check out kbb.com for the blue book value. Then subtract some for the damage.
The shop isn't trying to make a quick buck off of you for the valve work, believe me, it is a bitch to adjust them, and $300 is about the going rate for valves, but the pain in the ass factor is worth it. I think the mechanic is just giving you some advice to make sure the bike is good to go for you. They are jsut looking out for you. If they were trying to make a buck they would tell you you need a "tune-up", and they wouldn't adjust the valves, just charge you $150 to check a couple bolts, the fluids, and throw some lube on the chain that took them 5 min to adjust, A.K.A everything that you can do yourself...MAYBE they will replace the plugs that they will charge you extra for.

Thanks, I ended up not buying that bike. Instead I got a 2001 R6 with 300 miles on it.

Will be picking it up today.
