My manual says this:

Quantity
Total amount
3.4 L (2.99 Imp qt, 3.59 US qt)
Without oil filter cartridge
replacement
2.4 L (2.11 Imp qt, 2.54 US qt)
With oil filter cartridge
replacement
2.6 L (2.29 Imp qt, 2.75 US qt)

I put ~ 3.4L into it yesterday, haven't ridden since (just let it warm up yesterday and today) because something was wrong with it on friday and I don' feel comfortable riding when something is wrong with her but I changed the oil yesterday. Anywho did I add too much or just enough? The problem with checking is that the oil is so clear its hard to see where it is exactly on the stick.

Maybe I was supposed to add only 2.6L and need to drain some now? You check the oil with the biking sitting straight up correct?

yes with the bike sitting straight up... unscrew the oil dipstick and stick it in.. DO NOT SCREW IT BACK IN!!! all u have to do is stick it in... pull it out and check it... according to the manual.. u have to let it idle for 5 minutes.. then let it cool down for a couple more...

So adding 3.4L into the motor was the correct amount, I read that correctly. I just wanna make sure I did this right before I start riding it again whenever that maybe. What is the downside to adding to much?

In bold is what I read and how much I added, much thanks.

no, 3.4L was the amount to add if u pulled the engine apart and it was 100% dry.
u should have added 2.6L if u just changed your oil/filter.

u have too much oil in your bike, DO NOT OVERFILL OR UNDERFILL

Awww ok much thanks, looks like I have to drain some oil now d'oh! What are the consequences of adding to much, I let it idle for a bit after I started it but I haven't taken it out on a long ride or used it as my daily driver once again. Just a quick around the block sort of thing.

too much can cause your oil to foam up, as well as cause oil to seep out of places it shouldnt.
way too much oil can cause a motor to hydraulic, which is very, very, very bad.

at the dealer i used to work at, a guy filled his bike w/ a full gallon (3.78L), when it only took 2.2L.
his excuse was, "thats what the parts guy sold me, a gallon of oil"
bwahaha

Thanks a lot you've been great help. Im draining it right now. Going give my best estimate on removing .8L of oil, thanks again!

no problem.
if u have a ratio rite, it makes measuring fluids 100x easier.
