deserteaglepoint50 03-14-2004, 06:48 PM My answer is Kinda. The first street bike I ever rode was a 2003 R6. I did get riding experience on dirt bikes. I rode on dirt for one year before getting my R6
WOMANIZER 03-14-2004, 07:24 PM My R6 was the first street bike I bought
YaYoGakk 03-14-2004, 07:30 PM My 03 was the first...
My 04 was my first bike ever...only real experience prior to purchase was the motorcycle training course. I feel it is an easy bike to control and a real sweet heart if you keep the revs done below 10k.
R6Victor 03-16-2004, 12:40 PM i started on my r6. before nov. 03, i had never even sat on a motorcycle. Dirtbike or streetbike to be honest. took the msf, in nov, bought my bike jan 1 and i feel fine with it.
Mikeeh76 03-16-2004, 12:51 PM I am with most members in here. My 03 R6 is my first motorcycle.
I never ridden one in my life or even interested/aware of the 2 wheel
community, and my only experience to actually riding one was when
I took the MSF Course a month before before I bought her brand
spanking new.
smiko0124 03-16-2004, 01:05 PM Yeah man the r6 is my first motorcycle. I did have some experience on 4 wheelers and dirtbikes prior to buying a motorcycle though.. you should be ok though, just respect it.
rhangel 03-16-2004, 01:07 PM Thanks guys !!
I just wanted to hear from guys that are kinda where I want to be. I have never ridden b4 and registerd for the MSF class in June. I have said this before.....but a classmate has his 03 R6 (Silver) with only 200 miles on it for sale. He's asking for 6k only, so I want to buy the bike. But Ive gotten an ear full from people yelling at me about getting an R6 as my first. Anyway...thanks dudes !!
So for the most part you guys did OK ? Anything slip ups or something I need to know about. No yelling please, just response from people that had an R6 as thier first bike.
Slip ups....Oh yeah. At 1000 miles on my nice month and half old Blue 04 R6 I did the no brainer forget to put the kickstand down in driveway move. The good thing was I had frame sliders put on for free when I bought her so only damage was a broken foot peg, scratched slider and little nick on crank case from rock in driveway. I mean that damn rock had to be right there an inch over and no scratch. Oh well...now I double check the stupid kickstand.
deserteaglepoint50 03-16-2004, 02:50 PM No slip ups yet. My 03 popped a fuse once. That is the only problem though.
Brian03R6 03-16-2004, 04:13 PM Whaaaaaat? An ear full for getting an R6 for a first bike? Whoopity dooo!
You have to adjust to each bike accordingly right? So whats the big deal?
Ive rode dirt for years, so the balance and main riding can be done eyes shut. Yes the 6 has some good snort, i admit that, first time i wacked the throttle it made me respect it, im a pretty big guy, and i couldnt keep the front end down. But honestly, other then being a retard from birth, i see no reason why you couldnt own a r6 as a first bike. I bought mine last week, and prior to that i had ridden a virago a couple times, bout 3 years ago. I love the 6, i respect the 6, and as long as you dont become an instimoron, you'll be just fine.
Cax :hump
R6Victor 03-17-2004, 03:03 PM yeah ive done the kickstand trick as well. Luckily my sister was standing there as was my car, so my sister just got pinned in between and nothing even happened to the bike...well i did have to readjust the mirror...
jasamb 03-17-2004, 06:24 PM First bike = R6
Slip ups = 1 (not including the obligatory kickstand trick)
bkchun99 03-31-2004, 11:27 AM I just bought a new 2003 R6. Yes, it's my first bike, but I've been riding my friend's YZF 600R for awhile.
OCboy03R6 03-31-2004, 12:25 PM if you take it easy at first, get used to it blah blah you should do fine, and uh, id jump on that deal for the 03 r6 w/ 200 mi, 6k thats a steal :!:
redneck_r6 03-31-2004, 12:35 PM My first bike was actually a dirt bike, but i taught my little brother how to ride and he jumped right into sport bikes. His first bike was a 2003 r6 and he adapted right to it. Just take it easy when you first get the bike and once you get comfortable with, let it loose and don't be scared to rip back on the throttle and see what an r6 can really do...it's an awesome feeling!
drhodes 03-31-2004, 03:05 PM The R6 will be my first. Have riden on dirt while I was in High School.
Its been said: respect it and you will be OK.
Slip up's - 1 , not going to the dealer sooner so I did not have to wait for a bike to come in. :(

I have rode a lot of dirt bikes I have raced ATV's, now I am trying to buy a 2004 R-6 how different is it to change from dirt bikes to crotch rockets...
Heavy_Rider 03-31-2004, 03:51 PM My first bike was a 04 R6 just 3 weeks ago, first time to ride, and i'm pullin smooth wheelies already, just be carefull right at first, the bike may seem small but it has some mean power.
SolaceRye 03-31-2004, 08:22 PM Hey Heavy... where you from in Kansas? I was just in Kansas City for Spring Break, I love that city, it's my favorite.

its not much different but the power is much better. plus the ridin position changes the way you ride the bike so youll have to get used to that as well. just dont push the bike till your ready to and youll be okay. :cheers
I just got a 01' R6, I have been riding for awhile but it was always a friends bike. So this is my true first bike. I dynoed it right after I got it and max power at the wheel was 99.6. I was impressed. So right now I am happy. Thats about it for now.
Skolar 03-31-2004, 08:47 PM I bought a 2004 silver with the Ghost flames on march 19th that was the bike I've ever ownede and the 2nd real bike I've ever rode but doin good and learnin alot
Cheng 03-31-2004, 09:31 PM First bike every, started riding again last week. Last time I rided a two wheels with motor was over 17 years ago on a moped.
I was a little concern about the power of the R6 (Inline 4 in general) and figured that I couldn't handle the bike at stop because the seat height is kinda talk but I just jump on the bike and start riding. I am very careful about slowing down.
Also, I notice that I am paying more attention while riding the bike than I do when I drive.

I'm from Southwest Ks, in the shit hole man, not to many good places to ride here. but yeah Kc is a good city, some fun stuff to throw down there. peace.
:cheers
Blueboy 03-31-2004, 10:20 PM No.
My first street monster was a suzuki 50cc moped. It was so useless, that I had to weave side to side just to go up a hill.
I bought a used ex500 years ago, had it for about 6 months. Got hitched, and sold the EX.
Just got back into riding last year. Mid life crisis. I have no comllaints, and the R6 is great for commuting too.
AyUIdiot 04-02-2004, 02:48 PM R6 is my first bike too, no experience besides the MSF course. You'll adjust to it pretty quicky.
AyUIdiot 04-02-2004, 02:50 PM .

I feel the same way...
cdemon 04-02-2004, 03:55 PM R6 was my first bike never even rode a dirt bike before it.
besides dropping it once between my legs because i didnt' put the stand all the way forward no crashes.
First bike I ever rode was my 2000 R6. Was a little wary letting the clutch out for the first time. Magazines said not a beginner bike, but I just had to have one. 4 years later I am loving every minute of every ride.
One thing I always keep in mind though. There are two types of riders: Those that have been down and those that are going down. Just be safe and watch out for the other guy. The R6 is more bike than 99% of the riders out there can handle at the bikes limits. You will reach your limits far before the bike reaches its.
Happy and safe riding.
Heavy_Rider 04-02-2004, 10:29 PM Let's all knock on wood for that one :cheers
TwizteD 04-03-2004, 09:28 AM yep my new 04' is my very first bike ever
