they SMT LEDS that are pretty much flat... they are really small.
What type of application are you going to use them for?

A couple people mentioned FLAT LED's in their windscreens. I put LED's in the bottom of a car door glass, but what are FLAT LED's? I haven't seen any pics yet on anyone's bike, but I think it would be cool to light up my windscreen.
If someone could maybe send me pics of a screen with this done and maybe a site to find the correct LEDs that would be great!!

I would be interested in maybe use it to light up the license plate. Please share what you find.

The square cut LED's? If so, they don't omit as much light as a a normal LED light, so I wouldnt use them for a plate light.

I think they would work though to light up the round edge of a windscreen or so on........maybe work like a fiber optic with them.

Yeah they make them. They are used mostly in computers and electronics:

Green: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=070-040
Awhole crap load of LEDs: http://www.railtronics.com/Electronic_Comp_LEDs.html

Do a Google search on them: http://www.google.com/search?q=Rectangle+LEDs&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Just be warned that you need to use a resistor inline with most of them, otherwise you will blow them up. Some may already have them, but the small ones do not.

to just light up your windscreen the rectangular LEDs would work fine.
If you put them at the bottom, then size isnt really an issue that would require the SMT LEDs.
Unfortunately, some of those do not have a brightness (mcd) rating so its hard to tell how many you will need.
You could get some really really bright ones that would probably be visible even in the day, but if you happen to catch your windscreen at the right angle you might blind yourself :)

I never thought about the whole blinding aspect of it.. i guest if you wanted to make it glow, but not have light hit you (if possible - needs a federal grant to spend $2 million to figure it out) , it might be possible to "color" in the top edge with a black marker... (would need another $2 million to figure out if it is possible to color in the top edge, and another $4 million to determine which color would be the best to block the light.)

You could be talking about Spider LED's. They come in a little oval case, and it's pretty flat. Try looking them up. Saw some guy with the on his GSXR last night. I have the LED neon tubes...those are phat, but not good for your windscreen. They're too big.
