I have had a recent explosion of people wanting to buy 10W-30 oil...

I have recommended against this and asked for a copy of this recommendation from the owners manual.

No one has supplied this..

So today, I went to one of my Yamaha Retail Accounts and in my Grubby Big Mitts, I have a copy of the Specifications page..

There is NO recommendation for 10W-30 anywhere at any temp... If someone's manual shows different, please post a copy..

The Yamaha Manual States for 10 Degrees F. to 110 F. Ambient Air Temp, 10W-40.

It also goes on to state that the engine oil Grade must be an API SG or Higher with a JASO MA Rating...

WHY ???...... SG/SH oils will not have Friction Modifiers as this is a Spec from the Mid 90's.. The reason it Specs an MA Rating after that "higher" is because many oils with Friction Modifiers May Not Meet the MA Rating...

AMSOIL Motorcycle oils carry an MA 2 Rating. The Highest Clutch Peformance Rating Available.

Thanks Sno

What I have here is from a brand new bike... It is still on the sales floor.. LOL

He pulled the manual right out of the plastic...

So now I am really wondering... As what I have here says 10W-40, which surprised me right there instead of 20W-40 ...

I just don't want the wrong oil going out for the wrong application and someone puking an engine... It is that CYA Instinct..

this is the the 06 manual (and it's the same for 07). not sure what you're seeing, but i'm good with my 10w-40 amsoil (b/c at the time, 10w-30 wasn't offered).

My scanner isn't hooked up but I just confirmed with the Dealer that this is for an '09 R-6.

Evidently, Yamaha found out that 10W-30 was not the way to go in these... My recommendation will stand with 10W-40.

When an engine doesn't change, and the OEM goes from 40 wgt to 30 and then back to a 40, I'll stick with the 40 recommendation all day long

Thanks for all your input.

Yep..... Even Yamaha can't make up their mind.... Maybe they had a few too many engine failures.. LOL

As I said... I will continue to recommend the #1 Selling Synthetic MotorCycle Oil here... AMSOIL MCF 10W-40

I'm getting ready for my 1st oil change, do you think the AMS oil MCF 10-40 Synthetic is the way to go? I hear people say not to use synthetic on the first oil change.

There is no reason to wait any further than your 600 mile Interval to switch to synthetic.

Shoot me an email for a quote,... amsoil@bestoil4you.com
