Maguirres makes a "scratch and swirl" remover...I used it on my Jeep a few times, never tried it on the bike.

Use that, then a Maguirres conditioner, cleaner, then wax

i don't know how to get rid of the marks, but to prevent them in the future, don't use regular rags to polish/clean your bike. The best thing to get in my opinion would be a terry microfiber detalier mitt. costs a little under 10 bucks, but it's worth it. No scratches, no lint, and absolutely no streaks. Leaves the thing like it's brand new. Works on plastic or metal. You can wipe down your bike in between washings, and it'll get rid of minor streaks or hand prints...

also another thing u can get to keep from scratchin it is a california duster, get the small one though.

as far as gettin rid of em just go to your local auto store, they should have a few different brands there for ya to choose from, but meguiars and mothers are probably the best :cheers

you can always have them buffed out, but black is a tough color. get this wax from www.zainostore.com

get the Z-5 light scratch and swirl mark wax (it hides them, not get rid of them) and for a better finish apply a coat of the Z-2 finish wax. you can do more than one coat. im always amazed when i use this wax on my car, i used it on my bike last night, and woahhhh. it has very high reflective properties and it is very durable, one coat can last 6 months! unlike other waxes only last a month. its pricey, but worth it!

I bought meguiars scratch remover and it didn't do too much. I noticed a little improvement but nothing extrememly drastic. I too have a black 03 with light scratches... mostly on the tank from my jacket.

Maybe i should have used a terry cloth instead of a regular old cotton one.

Step 1: Wash bike with dawn
Step 2: Clay bar (meguires makes a nice one)
Step 3: Wash with dawn again
Step 4: 3M part # 39009 (swirl mark remover)
Step 5: Wash with dawn again
Step 6: Tropi-Care Polish http://www.tropi-care.com

If you don't want to use Tropi-Care you can use some of the other waxes. Meguires NXT is ok but it doesn't last very long. If you have any other questions post up or PM me.

A good clean base is the best way to start.

Try the one that starts with "wash the bike with Dawn"

Then, as someone mentioned get some Zaino bros swirl remover and polish. The stuff is simply amazing. Here is a picture of my car after only 1 coat. This is the passenger side rear door of my WRX:

In the future dont wash with anything but a CLEAN soft wash mit.
When you apply the wax, make sure its a quality applicator. To remove it, go to Bed Bath & Beyong ( i know...what guy goes there  ) and buy a canon or fieldcrest towel close to the color of your bike. This is pretty much the nicest towel you can buy. I bought two black ones for my WRX. This way you can use it to remove the wax, and for the zaino quick detail spray and it wont leave dust.
Keep the bike clean so you dont have to work as hard each time!

Fieldcrest went out of business. Try to get some of the Micro-fibre towels from Tropi-Care. They ARE the softest towels available.

Edit: If you don't want to order Micro fibre towels check out wal-mart, they aren't the highest quality but still soft. Also when shopping for towels at Bed, Bath, and Beyond look for 100% supima cotton towels. Kohls is also a good place to check.

Here is a reflection of a saddle bag I did with Tropi-Care:

It's indoors so it looks kind of crappy.

one other thing if you do wash your bike DO NOT USE DICH SOAP. think about it and youll understand why. basically its made to remove grease and oil from your plates and crap. so whats it going to remove from your bike. thats right the wax you just spent 30 minutes or more puttin on the bike. :cheers

You want to use dish soap before you start the process I stated for this exact reason. Removing any grease and oil from the painted surface. If the guy goes with Zaino it won't matter if he uses it or not because no dish soap will remove Zaino. But I do agree, if you're using a regular wax don't use dish soap. Don't use Dawn unless you're going to be claying your bike again. Meguires makes a great soap and so do Tropi-Care and Zaino.

First of all dont listen to the guy that says use dawn. I run a body and custom paint shop i should know.

The best thing to do is clean the bike with car soap and a clean soft wash mit (just to remove any road grime like sand that you will rub into the finish)

Then depending on how deep the swirls are you will have to do one or two steps.

For deep scratches:
Buff by hand with a medium cut 3M rubbing compound (purchase at local car part store)

Then use 3M hand glaze (hand glaze is a very fine version of rubbing compund)

After all of this apply a layer of good quality wax since this process will have stripped all the wax off of your bike

Carnuba wax is the best way to go synthetic waxes are horrible for todays paints

you welcome

The rubbing compound and hand glaze will cut right through the existing wax on the bike so removing it wih dish soap or a wax and grease remover is a wasted step

Gents......

Everyone has a way that they do certain things. I don't know how much experience FFFowler has in paint and body work but if it is appreciable, I would think his experience counts for alot. We're all on here trying to find answers to questions we all have, so lets be helpful and friendly with each other. And to 02RedWS6TA, that autopia link took me to a computer website, so, if you can, double check it and then repost the link. the more info we all can wrap our minds around, the better and more informed decisions we can all make!

So please, lets not turn this into a "who's dick is bigger contest" cuz I gotta admit, my cock is huge and I'll win those contest everytime!

Entiendes?
