: I crashed!!!
rez0469 05-11-2004, 09:00 PM I am a newbie indeed... I crashed on my 4th day, I was supposed to get off work at 8pm but i got off at 10, so it was a little cold, 35 degrees (F) i was parked by a stop sign adn i started up my bike and went to take a right hand turn after the engine was warm and i held the gas steady and as I was going around the turn the back end kept going around then it gripped when it was totally sideways, it threw me off and I fractured my thumb. I was so mad... just figured I would share that temperature has everything to do with the tires traction...
loki1313 05-11-2004, 09:02 PM man that sucks to hear, glad to hear you didnt get hurt to bad. but your defenitly right, the engine is not the only ting on the bike that needs to be warmed up
adobo 05-11-2004, 09:29 PM that sux dude, i'm still confused as to how the back end came around like that. was there gravel on the corner or oil? even with cold tires, going at a slow speed shouldnt make the back end come around.
redneck_r6 05-11-2004, 11:45 PM Sux to hear that you went down but at least you're okay. How bad is the damage to your six?
boytono 05-12-2004, 12:55 AM that sucks a fatty and atleast you aren't hurt bad. but u should have backed off of the throttle once u started spinning the tire. That is the first thing that comes to my mind as an initial reaction.
penfold 05-12-2004, 05:06 AM if that back end comes around like that, the last thing you want to do is get off the gas completely cuz that will definitely cause the tire to grip and then high side you off like that. its counter-intuitive but you have to stay on the gas and feather it until you get the bike straight. if you were in a car and were fishtailing, you let off the gas a bit to slow the rate of slide but not stop it, otherwise just jumping off the gas will result in rapid deceleration and cause un ugly jolt which is akin to a highside on a bike.
drhodes 05-12-2004, 05:07 AM At least it was a slow crash; glad that your ok.
rez0469 05-12-2004, 08:33 AM I think it was oily on the road a little bit. I think i did let off the gas and that is why it gripped and threw me sideways. I scratched the stator cover, scratched the lower fairing, broke the mid and scratched the tail section, broke off my foot peg and my left clip on and bent my clutch lever. But I got a bunch of new stuff coming... I found $600 in the bank that I didnt know I had
bkchun99 05-12-2004, 08:52 AM Sorry to hear about the accident. But you gotta be thankful that you weren't hurt too seriously.
Bikes can always be fixed, but not necessarily true with the human body.
Glad to hear you're OK. It really sucks to drop one of these pretty bikes. That's why you hear so many ppl recommend starting out on something a little.. less than pretty. I dropped my FZR pretty hard a few years back due to going too fast with cold tires on a cold road. The most important thing is that you're ok. Your bike can be fixed.
rez0469 05-12-2004, 11:54 AM well I have been riding dirtbikes for 8 years so I figured I would get something nice, I mean I am a hard workin 18 year old, last week I worked 64 hours from saturday to the next sunday plus I go to school 5 hours a day so I figured I would get myself something nice.
RSixxr 05-12-2004, 12:11 PM it's alright man don't sweat it. you'll have them plastics replaced in no time and be back on the road once your thumb heals. It sucks i know but better the bike and not you.......
burn rubber not your soul smoke
2 things...
Number 1:
They say that "every rider goes down, and every bike sees the ground"...be THANKFUL that you got yours out of the way early and that you weren't hurt any worse than the thumb. Pride can't be damaged around here so no worries there. We all have things we aren't proud of on a motorcycle, but you learn, you fix, and you go on. I put mine down the 3rd day I had it, total dumbass move, more of an "inexperience" move...but still it was on a curve, and I slowed down a bit harder than I should have and got high on the road. HIt gravel, and hit the front brake. Instead of the nice lean I had, the bike sat straight back up, and I went right off the road into the grass....there was an incline and I just couldn't hold the bike up. hardly any damage but the pride.
Number 2:
Can you come look around in my bank??? I need $600 that I don't know I have as well :lmao
rez0469 05-12-2004, 02:22 PM Yea my mom told me about the extra money, it was in one of those CD deals that you gain interest off ot and I never saw it on my bank statements and I totally forgot I had it but. I thought I was screwed but nope, I found some money. On my way to get the loan for my bike I got a speeding ticket, a 59 in a 55 and a window tint ticket, those together were $220 and then I giured I would need about $500 to fix my bike which ended up being about right and another $525 for my payments on my car and bike. But I an all good now. I have a little extra money, sold my car and now it is time to get the new exhaust ordered... Jardine RT-One w/race baffle.. O yea and I am riding even though my thumb is messed up.

MadChild 11-18-2004, 10:53 PM Sorry to hear about the crash man. Couple things are important when riding in the cold
#1 Engine
#2 Tires (have threads left)
#3 brakes(rear and front) never know when you need them
Its curical do have these things warm up. I thinks tires are most important as your going to through a corner, cold tires can only result in crashing.
