Heres my deal, I just picked up an Alpinestars Stunt leather jacket, after having all types of fitting problems I decided to get a size 54. The main problem is me, I am rather short at 5'8, and have a large build, and many of the jacket sizes were either to tight in the upper body or to loose and the length was another problem. Anyway the jacket fits me nicely in the arms and shoulds area but it is def to long on me when crouched over and riding. A friend told me that he was riding in the rain and when his leather jacket tried it shrunk a lot. Is this true, if I get my jacket wet and let it air dry will it possibly shrunk to a size better for me? Also how do you wash a leather jacket ? I took mine to a dry cleaner and it says right on the jacket to only let a leather speacialist clean it ? Whats the deal, any ideas? thanks Also when cleaning is there anything that I do not want to do b/c this jacket was not cheap. thanks

The only thing I know to do is use leather cleaner. Yes leather will shrink if you get it wet. But I've never known it to work in anyone's favor. So... I wouldn't do it.

best thing you cannot do is get it wet. air dry or not it will shrink. but being leather it will stretch bacl out, itll just take a while for that to happen again. and leather cleaner is the only thing i know to use :cheers

leather cleaner from WALLYWORLD works fine w/ a rag... (back in shoe section)... do not get it wet unless you know the colors are drum rolled ....if you get it wet and the colors are not drum rolled you will end up the colors of the jacket when they run.....

I just use a damp cloth to clean off all the bug guts and whatnot.

Here's a secret: Use Pledge. Yes, Pledge.

Here's a secret: Use Pledge. Yes, Pledge.

Can you explain why??

Sure thing.

About a years ago I was getting a custom exhaust built and the owner of the company said that he uses Pledge for cleaning the bike, exhaust, leathers and everything else.

Since he is the owner and president of Area-P (a private labeler that manufactures many of the famous exhaust brands we use), I figured that he probably knew what he was talking about.

But, being cautious about my Dainese leathers, I decided to do some research to see what other thought. Everyone substantiated the Pledge safety and use for leather.

Pledge acts like a mild acid (generally you don't want to use acids on leather like Simple Green) but pledge seems to work fine.

Now, I also use a balm (Dr. Marten's shoe balm) every six months (based on the recommendation of the former leathersmith from Vanson) to moisturize and soften. But, don't do this too often or it will weaken the leather fibers.

Pledge leaves a nice lemon scent (that bee's tend to really like) and cleans leather fast and quick. I use a microfiber cloth to clean with Pledge and even use it on my kangaroo leather.

After a lowside seemed to tear up some of my leathers, Pledge really cleaned them up.

I buy a ton of Pledge because I detail my '05 like crazy with it. But, I'm 'ol school and use carnuba wax to polish.

yea i heard about using it on bikes, but not leathers. I know Pledge has the same kinda texture as Plexus which i use and have to pay $11 a can. Sooo i think Pledge is gonna be the new bike cleaner :toocool:

Is zymol a good leather cleaner for a jacket???

Zymol cleaners and waxes are some of the finest products you can purchase. If you are referring to the cleaner/conditioner, I wouldn't use it cause it will make your jacket slippery.. If you are using just the leather cleaner it is great stuff.

I also use tanners preserve leather cleaner. It's really good also.
