The Euro key is my everyday key, no ring The soft R6 keychain is my backup, and the metal one never leaves the house, it's my emergency key.

Spare and Master (red key + tag) are kept in my closet

Main key only has a ring connector so I can attach it to the rest of my keys. The parkade gate remote stays in my pocket when i ride because it scuffs the tripple tree

Here's my keychain. First pic... everything is together. There's a 3-part connector.

This is the bike stuff. Remote for the alarm, key for the Xena disc lock, and the euro key:

Here's my truck stuff. Remote entry/starter and ignition key:

http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/6712/sspx2275.jpg

Here's my house keys. Dog tags are from past pet dogs. The silver rectangle is the key tag for my '04 R6 that was stolen.... That's all I have let except for the owners manual:

They aren't already cut  You buy a Euro key as a blank like any other key and have it cut to match to one of the keys that came with the bike.

Ya I was thinking about the Euro-key too. They look kinda cool and from what little I've read they have a chip inside that kills the bike unless it started with the real key. A little extra protection never hurts.

my 2008 (Canadian) comes with the euro keys and yes, they do have a chip inside. The chip is for the immobilizer in the bike. I doubt you'll get that part of it to work unless you swap out the ignition or something even more perhaps.

When you buy the bike they give you 2 keys and a red master with the number tag. If you lose the red key you have to completely re-key the bike.

while we are talking about keys and such.. why the hell are the euro keys so expensive? Are they just as expensive for people in canada and such where they come standard?

i mean you can get 2x the normal key blanks on Ebay for like $6, why $30 or more for same key, just a different head

Call gp motorparts 2137420959 talk to mathew $35...

The euro key has a chip bulit in it... Hints the higher cost but won't effect us bikes...

doesn't anyone read anymore? :)

the euro/canadian key has a chip in it which goes with the factory immobilizer on the bike. YOU, as in the US do not have the immobilizer so you get the old style key which does not have the chip...hence the smaller (old style) head.

You're willing to pay $30 for something that doesn't work on your bikes. I don't understand why you would want to do that but to each their own?

Yeah... but didn't you two pay MORE for your bikes? :fact

yeah a little bit (after you flip currencies)...but I'll gladly pay a little more for a bike with a factory immobilizer that works ;)

I made it. Took an extra key, and cut the ears off, so the key was perfectly straight, but still the same overall length, then Just took a stubby flat head that I never use, boiled it in water for 5 minutes so the plastic was soft enough to slide out the metal screwdriver part, then the spare key was taped off and put in vice so I wouldnt put the key too far into the plastic, and just pushed the handle down over the key. At that point, making sure its straight, leave it in the vice where it cant move for about 1/2 hour. If not, the key could pull to one side during cooling, and the key wont be straight. I didnt hold my first one straight while it cooled, and it wasnt perfectly straight, so I had to redo it.

After that, my screwdriver plastic was a little cloudy, so I buffing disc in my cordless drill, and with some rubbing compound, polished it back to crystal clear.

Very cool! A buddy has a Ruckus and he said alot of the Ruckus guys here in Dallas have that same key mod. It's pretty badass if you ask me. My only hesitation is the big lump in my pocket while walking around looking at bikes. Bet you never loose that thing tho haha..... very cool!

I'm in the PA Army National Guard. Spent my whole time in this branch. I currently work full time on ADOS orders doing Military Funeral Honors. It is crazy how many WW II vets are passing away. That's just speaking of what i know of in PA. Can't imagine what the numbers are across the U.S. Bottom line what a great privilege and honor it is to give vets there last honors...

Well, you can kinda control how far you want it above the tree, or if you want it flush with the keyhole you can trim off the top of the key as needed.... My boss did mine for me. He does it for a lot of my customers.....

R6Rescue
07-21-2009, 06:23 PM
Yeah I did, had to take it to the dealer though and get my ECU reprogrammed. They sent an OEM "US-Compatible" transponder unit, but it tried to kill my bike, lol. After a lengthy discussion with a Yamaha mechanic, found out that this unit is garbage, that's the last time I'll listen to a non-US parts guy, LOL! I had to get a mechanic friend of mine at Yamaha to do it on the sly, b/c their not supposed to tell you it's even capable, but the transponder in the key is enough if you can get it done, no other ECU plug-in unit necessary! :enforcer

Yes and No. You have to find a big enough Yamaha dealer that has the computer to do it, and I know only two in Texas did, but just because of the size of the dealership. Second, if you don't have a backup ECU, it's risky because yours could be wiped. Third, if you don't like know the guy who runs the service department kid's names, I wouldn't bother trying, because he or she could get fired and the dealership could get in BIG trouble. I think it's stupid, but whatever. I think that being in the US we deserve this more, since we have one of the biggest motorcycle theft problems of any country, but, whatever. :menace

I think there's a law in Canada that all new vehicles must have an anti-theft (immobilizer) or something like that. That's the only reason we need that type of laser cut (chipped) key.

I really have no idea why the US bikes don't have 'em.

Rode just over 5000 miles in 2 weeks, from Ohio, down to Missouri, west to Colorado, up to Wyoming to South Dakota, then back to Ohio again, all on Harley Ultra Classic (you don't take a sport bike to Sturgis).

I'm going to catch some crap for this one.....

I have a Harley key chain on my R6 key....

http://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics/bike/key.jpg

But to be fair, this Harley key chain came from Sturgis:

http://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics/bike/key2.jpg

Rode just over 5000 miles in 2 weeks, from Ohio, down to Missouri, west to Colorado, up to Wyoming to South Dakota, then back to Ohio again, all on Harley Ultra Classic (you don't take a sport bike to Sturgis).

http://www.cdmfabrication.com/bbpics/sturgis/wyo.jpg

I have one, too. Bought my 6 from the local Harley shop (owner was selling it for a friend getting deployed overseas) and got the free keychain and a Harley shirt.

Psh. Dont look at me. I cant take the credit. Im not at all skilled to do that. I got it off ebay. He said he was getting more styles in, but ill have to wait for payday. :lmao

I found a couple cheaper ones, But I liked these ones the best. They have one that has the spiked german hat on it that i liked, but didnt think it would go too well with the bike.

Clicking "Add to cart" seems so much easier. Especially for those not crafty inclined (like me).

LMAO true, and cheaper, I think you'd need to spend 80 bucks minimum to get the ball rolling, but if you were to make more upon request ti would pay for it's self.

Maybe I'll make some but more evil looking, I have free time and need a project.

Here's mine. Tough to see but I made the keychain out of a piece of scrap metal and had "Black Betty" (bike's name) engraved on it. I then painted it flat black and scratched out the letters so that they have the steel finish. I looks much better in person compared to this crappy cell phone pic.

Not as much as half of these keychains on here...

I ground and sanded the entire thing. Soft as a baby's bottom.

I'm your typical burnout who will lose keys unless the keychain is MASSIVE. These are my car and office keys. On the bike I run no keychain. I just try to not take the key out very often. LOL
