Here is the R6 as it sits now, bone stock, and it is being built from the ground up into a WERA/AMA SS spec race bike.

The bike is being built at WitchKraft Motorsports by the same people who build the bikes for Eddie Kraft/WitchKraft Racing. I haven't actually seen the bike in person yet. I likely won't see it until the final touches are being put on. I will go up there when the clip-ons/levers/rearsets etc are being installed so the bike can be ergonomically setup for me. They will also set the sag at that point.

It will be completely torn down to the frame, swingarm removed, all bearings changed and re-greased, all wires will be removed and re-routed to shorten them as possible and to tuck them behind the frame make them less likely to be damaged in a crash.

Then it will be re-built, one piece at a time with the primary focuses being reduced weight and proper balance.

The Motor is being built my Jamie Hanshaw (same person who built Brian Van's STG Race bike and the bikes for the STG/WitchKraft Racing Team).

Suspension will be Ohlins.

The Kit ECU and Harness will be from Graves, as will the Works Full Titanium Exhaust.

The wheels powder coated Black.

The Rear Shock will be made "quick change". The rear brake caliper will be made captive (as will the wheels spacers) for easier and quicker tire changes.

The bodywork will be Armour Bodies, painted of course, in the STG Race Team Theme.

I will keep this thread updated with pictures and descriptions of the complete disassembly, re-assembly and parts used in the process. :)

Rear Brake Caliper made Captive

Chris,
is the rear brake captive thing just a hole drilled and a screw set in there ? or are there a couple screws? my mechanics that go with me are about to do something mean if i don't do this mod..
there are two 180deg apart. it is just a hole tapped for a screw on both sides, pretty simple.

I am sure Eddie and the gang have it under control...it ain't their first rodeo ;) I started a bike build on Jake's bikes last spring, but ended up having to put it together in like 3 days before RRR and din't have time to take any pics...wish I had. It will look great when they are finished. :toocool:

Don't like white wheels. Lol. I really cant give you a good reason other than i just dont like them.

I know the rest of the STG team has white wheels and that is all good...i just cant do it. I have always had black wheels (or carbon fiber, like on my 675) and that is just my thing.

Tdub what's the top mount mod? And is the wire harness re-route achievable with stock ecu? I've got it most the way there but it's a mess behind the rad and under the airbox, the harness just doesn't fit there nicely, I'm concerned it will bake or break. Nice work Chaotic, bike is going to be sick.

A thin nut is welded to the clevis and the bolt is replaced with an Allen that is the minimum length it needs to be. Then there is a small hole drilled into the subframe so an allen T-handle can be inserted to loosen tighten the top shock bolt. With this done nothing needs to be removed to R&R the shock...takes only minutes.
I have not tried it with the stock harness. I don't work on street bikes ;)

There's no reason to go back to stock ;)

once you're captive, you never go back.

I suuuuuuure hope so. That is the plan anyway :D

The thing is, we still dont have the Kit ECU and harness, or Active throttle assy...which are all coming from Japan. They are supposed to be there the first week of March. Then that stuff has to be installed, then the bike dyno'ed and then i have to get up to Michigan to get it.

So if the stuff from Japan is delayed at all, even just a few days, it might not happen. :(

Same thought when I saw the sliders. I ordered mine on mid-February and STG said that mine will ship on 29. I should get them later this week, too late to put them on before Barber. Hopefully mine's part of the new batch and we all get them at the same time.
