Lowering miles on a bike

I was on ebay checking out parts for the R6 when I ran across a cluster off of a used 08-12 R6 for about $150 with only around 1,000 miles on it. Is it just me or is it scary to think that a person can just throw this cluster on his bike that actually has 30,000 miles when he wants to sell. Is there any security against this? I understand you write the miles on the title when you buy it, but if you bought the bike with low miles, no one would know if you put 3 or 30,000 miles on the bike. Just another thing to look out for when buying used I guess!

My 04 has 28k an it's clean but every time you register a bike or car the mileage is recorded so doing a cluster change is illegal if your not open about the real mileage of the bike

:yes

This is what people do. Get used to it and buy bikes from people you know or roll the dice. I can't even count how many people have asked me to get them gauge clusters with less than 12k, but not more than like 6500, cause they registered the bike with 6500, and don't want to have to ride 2500 miles to make it legit when they sell it.

It happens all the time, and plenty of these bikes get wrecked early. Nobody has a clue what true mileage is on them. Closes thing you'll get is what it was registered at, and then the seller could have put 20k on her with a different scratched up shitty cluster, swaps em back and you're sad when valves need adjusting right away, etc.

I sold some chump a bike and with this and was able to get an extra 2 grand from the low miles. He tried complaining later but I said no dice. Feelsgoodman.jpeg

I'd just make a tab that breaks if you remove the cluster. Broke tab, better have a good excuse.

The only way to have an idea if the mileage on the bike is legit or not is to ask at the license plate office... They know if the mileage was always accurate during ownership transfer but you'll never be 100%, unless you're the first owner?

Before buying my 6 I was looking at a R1 on kijiji and when I asked them, they told me the mileage had been reported inacurate between owners. Told the seller and he didn't even knew (well, that's what he said). I didn't buy it
