BT-16's or Q2's and why?

My dilemma is, Need to replace my wore out rear tire and maybe do my front at the same time as well. Have run these used bt-16's i picked up 8 months ago, but they are the 4 and a half year old model. to my knowledge the newer bt-16's are better than what I have. So far i've like these but i have the chance to get either BT-16's or Q2's for the same price, in your guys opinion which one would be best and why. I have a track day at button willow coming up, i maybe do 1-2 track days a year, mostly easy week day riding, some times hit the canyons with friends on the weekends.

yea the S20's are more $$ than what Im looking at so they aren't an option just yet. Im torn because i think if the "newer" bt-16's are much better than the ones i have i know i will be happy. And i've heard mostly really good things about the Q2's.

i would get the q2 because it's my opinion that they are the better tire. i believe that the bt-16 is being replaced anyway.

if you're only doing 1-2 track days per year, you may just want to go with whatever tire is cheaper because you shouldn't ever need that kinda grip on the street unless you're being irresponsible and a couple track days aren't going to make or break either of those choices.

I did a track day at VIR North on Q2's. The first half of the day it was raining. I didnt have any traction problems except the one time i wasnt being smooth on the throttle and the rear started to slide to the side but it stayed under control...Ripped my seat a little though..

If you're going to be doing a track day soon then definitely go with the Q2, they will give you phenomenal grip. I run STT advanced and NESBA I and they're excellent tires. The S20s are great as well though, and are cheaper than Q2's, 220 on Jakewilson.com shipped. I ran the BT016 old model on my cbr1000rr for 6 months and loved them, and my buddy with the new set on his 1000rr loves them as well, and says they're better than the old model. IMO, from best to least best, I would rate it at Q2, S20, BT016.
However, the S20 and Q2 are very close in quality, but for lean angle grip and speed on the track, you can't go wrong with the Q2's. The technology comes from the GP-A line.

Oh god. I have those on my bike right now for the time being, just so I can ride it off the track. I can't stand the front tire profile. Was going to take the 6 to barber this past weekend but instead took the cbr just because I didn't want to deal with the Pures on the track. Ordered Q2's for the 6 though last night, can't wait

great info guys, If i can get the Q2's for the $180 price tag i found recently i think that is the way im going. I really wanted to try the newer bt-16's tho, but maybe its time to step up to the 20's soon .

180 for a set nice!

The 20's are a fantastic tire IMO, especially for longevity. I've got 1k street miles, an intermediate track day at Road Atlanta, and an intermediate track day at Barber Motorsports Park on the S20's, all on the 1000rr, and the tires still have plenty of life left, I'll see if I can't throw up a pic of what they look like now.

edit: got some from saturday. I'm back at school now and the bike is home, so I can't get any more angles till the weekend. But again, that's after two track days and 1k street miles. On the street I ride 33F 32R and on the track 31/30

couple weeks later and i still haven't bought the tires. i hate having just enough money to cover my bills (motorcycle/truck payment, gas, food, insurance ect) and barely enough to save $100 a month. then again, it doesn't help when im buying new parts for my truck every other week, and i just bought a sweet leather red/white/black R6 jacket :fact. was also waiting on this court case i thought i'd get $2000-2500 two weeks ago. that didn't happen, so i now i have to wait about 5-7 months to get another final court date, but if i win my potential winnings goes to over $4K :jacked. the bike would get a new custom tune, new brakes, and a paint fix for the 2 spots that have been scratched. maybe even some new rear sets.

Won my court case, rather i scared them into settling for $2500 out of court to help safe face :fact. So i accepted and now i get to buy a few small things for the bike. just waiting for the check in the mail. Bought a new yamaha leather jacket, need a new helmet and gloves, then its time to shop for some pants.
