Ok, my price range is between $200-300. My main brands I have in consideration are AGV, ICON, & Bell. HJC is fine but I already had a HJC helmet so I kinda want something different. I tried on the K4 the other week and a size M (which is what I take) seemed like it could cause some pressure, not sure if it will break in and that will go away and just be comfortable then or not but just thinking about it for now.
Icon has a ton of helmets but I have yet to try one on. Same with bell. Can I get some feedback as to what helmets people have and favor in this price range? My bike is white, with some red accents in, so a white/black/red color scheme would be perfect as well although I am not terribly worried about color.
All helmets should be somewhat tight on your face as it's new. It'll break in once you wear it a few times. AGV is good. I have the K3 and love it and use it for the track. It only cost me like $220 too.
icon helmets are actually made by hjc. icon just puts their graphics on them and charges you more.
the bell star helmet is a great helmet. not sure you're gonna find an agv in your price range, tho.
i would try to get a helmet that's the most opposite of the colors of your bike as possible. matching your gear should be avoided if at all possible...

Agv I can get quiet a few, k3's, k4's, and closeout horizons I have seen for in the 300s. Bell has some nice ones, I almost got a closeout carbon one for $330 but was out of my size when I called to order.
I always thought Icon was a pretty reliable brand? Or am I just paying for the graphics and not the actual helmet itself with them?
Icon is not the way to go. Try on everything else you mentioned. Buy what fits best. Have an expert in a shop be the judge of that. The hjc rps 10 is an awesome lid.
I have tried them, they aren't bad as beater helmets but they are def cheaper and not as fit as the main brand helmets. But for the $30 and $40 helmets, if you absolutely need one, maybe for a passenger or something or a extra one, they aren't bad. I wouldn't put money on safety though besides more then a general DOT certification.
Make sure it fits your head first and foremost....most brands have different head shape. AGV k3 are super nice for the price....so are the hjc. Sportbiketrackgear has some super good deals on bell star right now too.
In 2008 I crashed wearing ICON budget gear that I had bought with the bike. It saved my skin and I walked away with only scrapes and bruises. Icon textile jacket, icon shorty leather gloves, and a cheap $110 Scorpion helmet.
Those $50 Icon leather gloves held up better than a pair of $250+ A* GP Tech gloves I crashed at the track.
As Chief said, gear is better than no gear, regardless of brand or cool factor. I think people dismiss ICON more than any other brand because the brand image is correlated with squids.

It seems it. I don't have any other gear from them besides my contra, but the jacket is great in every way and I paid only $200 for it so I really can't complain at all. It flows air amazing, has the same ce armor most other jackets have, also a liner for the cold.
ICON isnt trash, tired of hearing that i dont wear their stuff but just cus i like fancy dainese/agv/suomy :laugh ill agree their helmets are heavy as shit but if you crash at 100+ any helmet will protect you from cracking your skull into a million pieces
friend went down on the freeway with an icon helmet..helmet was rashed beyond belief but no cracks..visor didnt crack or anything...icon is like gsxrs apparently theyre for noobs only
talking about quality is one thing but saying it wont save your life is another....some gear is better than no gear...i still would advise to not buy a 60 dollar no name brand helmet off ebay lol
It is ridiculous what prices you can find helmets and gear for when they go on closeouts for the year. I mean.. once 2013 starts, the new helmets will be $700 or so. ...Then when 2013 ends in december, watch them be like 3-400 lol. I really am amazed at that sale though.. I mean, they were $650 $700 just recently and still are on other shops and websites! 50% off a damn $700 helmet is a huge discount..
It doesn't seem like it gets very dark though? I drive 2 cars with 10% tinted windows all the time, so I like dark tinted, guess I got used to it. Although I don't wear a tinted visor at night, during the day I would love if it was almost as dark as spraypaint haha, it just doesn't seem like it turns very dark?
ahah well I mean dark tint, not light smoke. All my visors I have used for helmets in the past I always have gotten dark smoke visors as extra's, including for this helmet. The photo shield seems like it only tints to light smoked darkness, and that's only in damn bright sunlight. I guess I would have to see it in person
In this video for example, it does not look like it gets dark AT ALL, whereas other videos I have seen it seems to get decently dark in bright sunlight. So I was on edge about it.
