How to shorten exhaust??

I have been searching and havent been able to come up with the best way to trim down or shorten an exhaust. I have a Yosh TRS with carbon fiber sleeve on my 05 R6 and would like it to be a little louder and shoter. Any pictures or advice, besides buying another slip on, would be great. Thanks.

Ive read you can cut the can down by drilling the rivets on the oulet end.Removing the end cap cut the can to desired length.Re-install the cap drill the holes for the rivets & install new rivets.Been wanting to do this, but i can't bare to cut my akra!

Here is the post that I made of cutting mine down but mine was stock. Before i done mine though all I could find was people cutting down aftermarket exhaust's. so there shouldnt be a prob. finding the info just do a google search it was so simple to do mine and I believe after market is even easier becaus most of them the pipe runs straight threw instead of going all over the place like the stock exhaust...

To Shorten the Can:
Using a chop saw with a metal cutting blade
Drill out the rivets of the end cap and set that a side, measer 8 inches back and mark it
Go to the chop saw and get it all level, make sure you got some kind of eye protection cause sparks are all crazy and cool looking
Cut the pipe and if you cut far enough back you should have cut the end baffle out which is a series of pipes that direct the exhaust all over and weighs approx 7-10 lbs
Bend the inner pipe up that comes out of the middle baffle to line up more with the end cap
Slip the end cap on mark were to drill wholes
Drill them out and slip the cap back on set the rivets
Put pipe back on and enjoy

I know that if somone would have shown me that I would have done it alot sooner! It shows How simple it is!

It also sounds badass on the stock r6 exhaust. My cousin did it and power is alot better and saves you alot of money.

i just did my stock 08 r6s can.. cut it in half with a chop saw, drilled out he rivets removed the end cap and angle cut the interior pipe. and wow, what a deep nice sound. definitly louder and i get more top end power for sure. thanks alot for the motivation to cut a week old bike..

.....it would actually be easier to cut down your Yoshi pipe, than a stocker. I usually drill out the rivets, on the endcap.....then chopsaw the can where I want it. When you pull the endcap out,the inner baffle pipe will be connected to it. You'll notice the baffle pipe slips into the other endcap, so you'll have to measuer, then cut the baffle down as well. It helps to bevel the edge of the baffle, so it doesn't hang up, when you put it back together. Just measure, mark, and drill for the rivets....put the strap back on, rivet it back together, and you'll be done. When you go to put the strap back on, at the endcap, you'll notice the center hole is round, and the rest are elongated. Put the first rivet, in that hole....then work your way out. The strap overlaps, at the last rivet. Hope this helped you out.....it's really not that hard to do.:YEA

I just did this with the help of some of the tips in this thread. Figured I would add a few pictures if anyone was curious:

I don't own a big cut-off wheel and don't have my air compressor at my new place yet, all I had to use was a cordless dremel (which the battery dies every 10 mins and takes an hour to charge hmph), and I borrow a cut-off wheel bit that's used with a drill.

Of course I got stuck at the part where you have to cut the inner 1"~ diameter pipe, since my cut-off wheel wasn't big enough ... I went to a friends shop and used a Sawzall, if you have one just use it to cut the whole thing it's soooooo much easier. I had a hard time drilling out the rivets.

I decided midway through that I don't care what it ends up looking like, I can eventually paint or sand it for a semi-polished look if I want...

I'm really happy with how it sounds, just as loud as my GF's 05 with a baffle-less Vance & Hines pipe ... it does have a different tone though.

I want to do this to my Yosh TRS anyone know if its the same operation? I have no idea if there is a baffle in my can or not? any help?

thanks motoman! mines polished so I don't have to worry about the cf sleeve. which end did you cut off? the outlet end?

Before you just start cutting make sure you pull the inside baffle out after taking the rivets out. I took mine out of the bottom end where the mid pipe connects. Just use a chop saw with a diamond cutting blade. on it. Use tape on the pipe so it makes a clean cut as well.

wait so there is a baffle in the TRS?!? and i should drill out the rivets on the end that connects to the mid pipe and shorten that end of the pipe? sorry for the noob-ness i just don't want to screw up my $300 pipe :dunce:

that Yoshi pipe looks nice, great job on it man. I'm definitely going to consider that as my future exhaust.

It's quite loud, and has a nice tone actually. I don't have any moving video footage yet so I can make a video (combined with the video of my bike sitting still running). Was going to make some today but my good friend went down out at this track-like place we go to, had to help him off to the hospital with broken forearm and puncture wound above his ankle on his calf :(
