A lot of us have lost friends, and now realize the where the real fun is and it's safer at the track. No 150+MPH tickets or road blocks for me anymore.
Keep to yourself. Find a friend to ride with who isn't a maniac and has some good experience, etc.
I haven't taken the MSF yet, but I plan on calling the DMV today to see if I can get my learners permit before I get my full provisional license. It's a little late for all this, but it beats a '93 pathfinder.
I've got an 01 pathfinder with 194k on the clock. Towing to and from the track finally did it in. Now it's only useful for around town errands until the trans goes.
Hopefully you'll get into a class. I'm sure if you read up, there's plenty of good info for a new person riding.
Stuff, like, don't stop in the center of the lane at a light in all the oil. Stop in the tire tracks.
Body position is crucial to limiting the lean angle of the bike in turns.
Front braking for the vast majority of times, etc.
There's tons of posts you'll find helpful and plenty of people to help you with that carbureted bike.
