Re: April 1st Street of Willow Ticket

Take it 2 the Track runs there too. (ti2tt.com) They're probably my favorite org.

I've run a few days with Motoyard. They're not bad. They've always got control riders on hand in the pits that you can ask questions of, and they'll come out with your for a session or two and give you tips or a tow. They've also got a spread of drinks & fruit and stuff which is a nice perk.

The downside is their passing rules are really strict. C group has NO passing in the turns. B is only outside. A is what you'd expect for A. A couple of times I've ridden with them they kind of slacked on announcing the call to grid in the afternoon sessions too which is annoying if you're not keeping an eye on the clock.

Those were not the rules they were doing today...they definitely encouraged passing on the straights but never said you would not pass in turned. And they were super good about announcements today...did a 10 min, 5 min and an immediate call for all sessions.

Aside from getting some awesome time and feedback with one of the control riders today was kind of a bummer. I only ended up running 3 session because the wind was pretty awful. Although I must say...out of 10 trackdays this was really the first one that I ended up skipping out on most of the sessions so I had a good run of good weather.

Yeah the wind sucked big time, I felt like I was in a sand blaster. I was kind of bummed with the day which stinks cause I love streets. The C group was over booked or something because it seemed like if you did charge ahead and make some passes, you just ran right back into another group.
Oh well, we'll try again in a few.

Hmm, that's good to hear about the passing rules & announcements. I really wanna get out there for the track night they run at Streets.

How bad was the wind? I was out at CVR for Star School and it was gusting pretty bad, but whenever we could see the track we were out there. It was a little unnerving at first but after a couple of sessions I got used to getting blown around.

^ It's was bad. Coming out of the bowl I was almost at a full hang off to keep the bike going straight. The guy parked next to me had his bike blown off his stands. Broke his rear sets and dented his tank. The girl next to me was trying a low speed u-turn and was blown down. I guess the rear set dug into her foot pretty good and ended her day. By far one of the chittiest days I've had at a track.

I saw the girl go down...was wondering why she did not get right up and was limping.

I kept worrying one of our bikes would get knocked over.

I almost got hit by a giant tumbleweed...which was actually kind of funny. But riding through the bowl while a dust cloud was crossing pretty much sucked.

I guess the wind was not bad enough to stop some guys (my husband and our friend included) but it rocked my confidence pretty good so I quit while I was ahead. But the track cleared out by maybe 1 or 2. My husband did a good 4-5 laps on a empty track...and it was only about 3:00 then. They called an open track from 3 to 4 and then closed the track early. My husband said the corner workers were not even looking at the track because they were covering their faces from the sand.

Getting pelted by all the little sand rocks sucked too.

Holy crap! It was bad, but not blow-bikes-off-stands bad out at CVR. There was sand everywhere though. When I was gearing up Sunday morning I literally had to dump it out of my boots.

The Star School was freaking awesome. If you go, definitely do the full weekend. Jason Pridmore is just an awesome dude. He very clearly loves teaching the school and getting out there and riding with people. His enthusiasm is infectious. Steve Rapp was there for awhile on Saturday. Some kids from AMA supersport do control riding.

There was a tremendous amount of motorcycle riding knowledge dropped on us. It was great getting feedback from people who ride at the absolute top level. Tons of track time. There were 68 people there, and we had 2 minor incidents over the course of the whole weekend. There's absolutely no ego, and things are really relaxed. A huge chunk of the classroom sessions is just Jason fielding questions and letting us steer the direction of the class.

Highly recommended. I'm gonna do a big write-up with tons of details and I'll post it up in the track section sometime later this week.
