00 r6 running issue

hey guys I have had a 2000 yzfr-6 with about 30,xxx miles on it for about 3 months now and it is my first bike so I am somewhat new to all of this. And needless to say not very mechanically knowledgeable when it comes to bikes. Still trying to learn. Anyways, for the past week or so i have been having an issue. It has done it a few times but very randomly. But for the last few days everytime I ride it long enough to get to about 180 degrees it starts to sputter real bad. I have to really give it gas to keep from cutting off and as soon as I let off the gas or pull the clutch it shuts off. It then will not crank for about 30 minutes until it fully cools down. It will start for a brief second with the choke down but it cuts right back off. At first it was really random but now it is happening just about every day. I am a college student so I ride and crank it every day, multiple times a day going from class to class. Like I said I am new to the bike world so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Changing the fuel filter and cleaning the carbs, is a good place to start.

Well...I was trying to avoid having to take out the carbs and clean them so I started out by putting some Seafoam in my gas tank and riding around my neighborhood to try to get the new gas through the system and carbs. It ran fine without messing up. Today I woke up to go to class and I made it half way and it sputtered and sputtered and finally cut off. This time I sat there for a few hours and couldnt get it to crank back up and when it did crank as soon as I hit the throttle it cut off. Well while I was sitting there I noticed my clock had reset and thought about it and it had been doing that everytime it cut off. So I started thinking it may have something to do with my battery being bad. It makes sense thought. It had been lacking power and felt bogged down in first gear. So five hours later when I finally got it to crank and run right, I drove it straight to Advance Auto to let them test my battery and sure enough my battery was really low. So I bought a new one and it's on charge now so hopefully this fixes everything. Just thought I would let yal know. Thanks

Yeah, bad battery makes it run crappy. I never had mine quit all together. I think you should still clean the carbs.

The clock resetting when you turn in off could be a wire on the harness on the back of the gauge cluster. Mine did the same thing when I got the bike. Took me awhile to figure that one out. If it still resets after you put the new battery in, I would start there. Its kine of a pain to get to because the upper cowl has to come off to get to it. If I remember correctly, when standing in front of the bike, it was the top right wire in the plug that was broken.
