The downward spiral will continue, a generation can only hope to be as good as the one that proceeded it. The current generation will only distil their behavior to their children and so on. Liberal ideology and a gross exaggeration of self worth is what we have now. Everyone wants something for nothing, and with the government handing out free shit like its a fcuking monster truck rally, it's no wonder. Success and hard work is punished in this country, while failure and idiocy is rewarded. Some will strive to be better people, but majority rules, and I don't think America will ever recover.
..also
I agree 100%
I honestly thought this country still had a chance until last night. I just can't wait until these people realize all of the free shit came at a cost, their freedom...
Btw,
I was listening to Glenn Beck this morning and I thought he hit the head on the nail when he said...
Quote:
“We’re not going to be able to explain this away in one day…Small things beat big things yesterday. Conservatism, in my humble opinion, did not lose last night. It’s just very difficult to beat Santa Claus. It is practically impossible to beat Santa Claus. People are not going to vote against Santa Claus, especially if the alternative is being your own Santa Claus. Now, everyone is jumping on Romney’s chain today, getting in his chili. Look, he might not have been the optimal candidate, but he’s a fine man. He would have been great for this country…I went to bed last night thinking we’d lost the country. I don’t know how else you look at this

~David Hockney,
It's fantastic because it doesn't matter who you were backing, it calls on you to be an American. Not a gay American, a white American, a Latino American, a black American, a female American, a rich one, a poor one, etc.
We can look at this situation, shake our heads, and be depressed, or we can use it as inspiration to do something decent. Maybe you pick up some trash, or maybe use it as inspiration to meet your neighbor, or thank a uniformed serviceman, or even something as simple as turning off the tv and reading your kid a book. Decency and respect don't require anything other than effort and courage, values we used to teach and cherish. Now we substitute Facebook and twitter for interactive conversation. We short change theface to face for the convenience of conference calls. We have made it easy to ignore each other, all while touting how tolerant and accepting we are. We claim to be intellectual, yet we don't crack a book unless we're forced.
I would think being a real American would be we put aside our differences and maybe come together enough to take back our Government that is "For the People By the people."
I don't think it would matter if Romney won, It's two sides of the same coin. To me. Election promises are like American Money pulled out of thin air. At this point I highly doubt we could afford to return to a gold standard.
Look at gas, prices and businesses outsourcing work to other countries even on a smaller scale like video game company's for cheaper labor.
The colonist showed England how they felt about the Tea tax with the Boston tea party. A tea tax! imagine the hell they would raise if they were in our situation.
We get taxed out of this world & we just take it. If the founding fathers were alive today they would be labeled terrorist by our government standards.
Being a real American to me isn't blindly fallowing a leader or the government for that matter. We have done so for years now we are in debt; last I recall the average debt a baby is born with in today's America is 30 thousand dollars.
Maybe I'm Crazy, but I think the only thing that would free the slaves with white collars of today would be a Revolution. Other countries are doing it more than you think or know because our News stations do not cover it.
Nothing will ever change till we make a change ourselves, but people are far to complacent. It's like you said yourself "People are more concerned with the new iPhone release." and it's true.
But what the hell do I know I'm just a puppet like everyone else I just happen to see my strings.
Personally If Ron Paul isn't running in 2016 I'm putting my vote in with Jesse Ventura.
