1st time I drag raced my r6!

My best of 4 runs was 11.0754 @ 126.85mph. My 60ft times started at 2.0038 and dropped to 1.9468, 1.9222, and 1.8829.

A track official said to take off my mirrors if i could, but i left them on because i didnt have anywhere to put them while i was racing. Does anyone know why he told me that, other than the slight (probably not noticeable) aerodynamic advantage?

Not bad for your first time, bro. That last 60ft time is respectable (for a first timer, haha). I have no idea why they would ask you to take your mirrors off, my track has never even mentioned that.

At the street track you have to take off your mirrors in case you crash...so you don't get glass on the track...maybe that was the reason. But funny they would not make it mandatory if that were the case...

Thanks for the info, I never thought of that. I'll take them off next time I go

Seems odd they would care about that, then they would have asked you to tape up your headlights or something.

Possibly, but keep in mind that headlights and taillights on a motorcycle (and most cars) are plastic, and probably less likely to cause catastrophic damage from a sliver of material, compared to the glass of the mirrors.

Re: 1st time I drag raced my r6!

There are a couple of reasons for the mirror request. First, they are adding drag and can cost you up to a couple of mph at the far end. Second, and a marginal concern, is that its possible that if you crash it could add litter to the track, but again, they clean up after any incident, so not as big a deal. Lastly, some people will complain in competition that it adds an unfair advantage in bracket racing because you can see your opponent coming and pedal them. Essentially, what that means is that if you see they are way behind you, you can take that to mean you are either breaking out or they are running an off pass, so you can roll off to avoid any potential of breaking out. Basically brackets are handicapped so you cross the finish at the same exact moment, and any variation from that, means you didnt run your dial in or have a perfect reaction time. Some people cant track calculate that fast, but some can, so you tend to get whiners that dont like mirrors.

What about all the cars that race and the glass that could shatter on them?

I think the mirror request is one of the reasons redisdead listed.

I know it is mostly the advantage the offer. I believe its even in the NHRA rulebook, at least for sportsman motorcycle that most of us run. There are all sorts of bullshit rules, like your tank has to have the manufacturer name on both sides...some even require a headlight or representative decal....

Ill be the first to say that I HATE the NHRA, its bullshit politics, its asskissing, and its flip-flopping dirtbags in positions to make rulings.
