FML....Gdammit!!!! She was super cool in class the last time out; I wish to know what she's like in da pits... I'd like her ride anything of mine, anything...
I hate you the most now!~~~~~!
How the sessions going?
Alright, here's the full recap now that I'm not posting from my phone.
Cliff notes - Going to a race weekend Friday track day with an AMA mechanic is ****ing awesome.
My friend (Matt) that got me into riding on the track in the first place would frequently mention how his good friend (Josh) is a mechanic, but really just wants to build race bikes, and then later on ended up being full time mechanic for some dude from Australia who wanted to run AMA.
Matt has a project TZ-250 that him and Josh pieced together and Friday was the first day he was taking it out, and Josh was coming with to dial it in for him and make sure it's running right, etc. Josh's girlfriend was also there riding. We got to the track pretty late, but Josh's girlfriend was already inside the gates, and was gonna get them to open them back up for us.
So we walk into the gatehouse / track office to get signed in and there's a bunch of people around BSing. There's a girl on the couch with a lip ring talking to the track owner about how Josh (not mechanic Josh, a different Josh) needs to trade in his truck. She notices my girlfriend is wearing an LA Derby Dolls sweatshirt, and is super excited to hear that she plays roller derby, and goes on to explain that my girlfriend is a total badass, and she doesn't think she could ever do anything like that.
We leave to go to the pits and gets settled in, and I explain to my girlfriend that lip ring girl was Melissa Paris, and the Josh she was talking about was Josh Hayes.
We crash in my truck. Josh & Matt crash in the van they drove in. We wake up and start getting setup, and I realize Josh's girlfriend crashed in the giant motor home parked next to us ... which belongs to Melissa Paris. So apparently they know each other pretty well, and Melissa spent a good chunk of time BSing with us in the pits, and took Matt's TZ out for a session. At one point she was explaining to my girlfriend how she broke her leg at VIR, and then raced 2 weeks later, because she needed to get points (but roller derby is too brutal for her ). Then they talked about nail polish.
Later in the day a van pulls up, and we shuffle vehicles around to make room for him to park - apparently another one of Josh's friends. The guy driving is not the one riding today though - it's his kid - who's like 12. Matt explains to me how the kid is ridiculously fast, and I figure he's on a 125 two stroke or something, and then they unload an S1000RR race bike with CSS stickers on it. He's here to race for the weekend, is gonna hit a session or two this afternoon. The kid is Joe Roberts, and went to the Red Bull Rookie's Cup twice, and won a few races. They're currently trying to figure out if he's going to race in AMA next year, or go race in some GP series in Spain. After the last session he comes in and talks about how he saw Jake Zemke out there and managed to catch up to him. His dad is unimpressed because Zemke is on an 848, and Joe is on the 1000.
So yeah ... definitely an interesting weekend. I had no idea what I was getting into, but I will definitely make room in the schedule anytime I find out that Josh is coming out for a track day again.

RIP Jason (snocompton) you were an amazing guy and will be missed
Not surprised... After being off for so long, then that whole racist thing, that's gotta suck a little.
just got back from an 8 mile run. Holy fck, I'm exhausted.
Used all my sick leave in my last crash so I have to pay off the last build still, buy a suit and boots, then save enough to pay my bills if I get hurt next year. Oh and don't forget about life's general expenses.....FML a new window which will cost me about 2,000 and a new air conditioner for the house. Really gotta get the wife to get a job...
