01' R1 Top end Rattle...

01' R1 with 24K miles. Origional cam chain tensioner.
Here are the symtoms...
Runs great. But....
When the bike is cold it starts and idles great. When it is cold I don't hear a 'rattle' from the top of the engine.
I hear a 'rattle' after the bike is warmed up! Then it sounds like a cam chain tensioner is not taking up cam chain slack.
Oil level is fine. I used Motul then switched to Amsoil M/C oil a year ago.
Suggestions?
It's not a clapped out POS. I take good care of it. Picture taken today.

CCT is known to make a shit load of noise in our yamahas. replace it. should make it stop

Yes. Would be a good idea to swap the cct.

Nice bike by the way. Haven't seen a clean older r1 like that before. Good for you.

Nice R1! I had a 01 that was a POS when I bought it and I did a rebuild, but yours is spectacular. CCTs were one of the things I added during the build. There's a good chance that's whats causing the noise. Also, if you haven't, check your valve clearances. If I remember correctly that was like a 24k mile service.

Thanks for the replies. I have a new CCT and gasket ordered. Should be here soon. Valves have been inspected.

(Edit) My Clymer manual states to 'remove the carb's' prior to attempting to install the CCT.
Is this REALLY necessary?
